ITANI | October 18, 2007 | News | Wii
You sure read that right. The concept of Super Mario Galaxy was being planned since 1995. The was a trailer at the SpaceWorld event which dates back at the start of a new millennium they year 2000. A Gamecube tech demo was displayed showcasing 128 Mario's walking around spherical terrain. The amount of Mari's basically represented the upcoming Pikmin and the spherical terrains represented Super Mario Galaxy. Iwata continues talking about the controls of the game. The controls are pretty simple, you spin with one button and jump with the other, while you can shake your controller to keep continuously spinning taking down whatever gets in your way. Seems like this masterpiece has been in development for quite a long time.
Satoru Iwata interviews the development team behind Super Mario Galaxy regarding the development process behind the game.
