£5000 for a WoW account?

Deis | September 24, 2007 | News | PC
Strange but true, a World of Warcraft account was sold to a new owner for £5000 early this month. For those of us who aren't British, that's €7000 euros or approximately $10,000 US dollars.

The night elf Rogue, Zeuzo, was in possession of some of the rarest items in the game, but, unfortunately for the new owner, the account was banned within five days.
World of Warcraft is an online fantasy world in which players create characters and take them adventuring. The characters gain experience and become more powerful by doing all sort of quests (kill this, find that, deliver this).

At the higher levels many players band together to go on raids to kill the most powerful enemies and get the best loot.

Zeuzo's creator, who took the rogue from level zero to high level hero, was contacted for the BBC by other players but he would not confirm or deny reports of the sale.

The Method guild of which Zeuzo was a member also declined to comment on the the sale.

However, the BBC does have independent confirmation that the account was sold for a figure of about 7,000 euros.

In this case Blizzard caught on quick. It banned the account about five days after it was sold.

I think this article could of been a bit more refined as it is missing out on some information such as the fact that the account was banned 5 days later. So, the person paid $10k for 5 days worth of entertainment. I lol'ed sucks to be him/her.

Heh, I've made over $1000 selling WoW accounts.

Of course this account was going to get banned though. The guy who brought it must be very very annoyed.

The account wasn't worth £5000, his gear isn't brilliant.

That is WAY too expensive for a WoW account.

But unfortunately, that account was banned within 5 days. Sad.

To be honest I'm not exactly surprised. These geeks sure love the game that they'll kill and die for it.

Sucks to be that guy though. I hope the money was well spent.

Way to waste your money. Seriously, if I could afford to spend that much on a game, I would rather donate the money. Heck, I wouldn't even consider playing WoW, there are so many better things to do, especially if you gave some money to spend and even if you don't. World of Warcraft isn't worth your time.

Lulz. Honestly; what the hell. The person who bought this must be like at the top of the hierarchy of nerds, if you're going to pay $10,000 for a flipping WoW account becuase it has some 'rare' stuff on it, get a life =(.

Wow, what an idiot. Why would you buy an account for $10,000. You know it will get banned! Its just like any other online game account buying out there, you will be caught! That guy (no offense) must be a total loser.
