Ratchet & Clank At 22 Gigabytes!

ITANI | September 22, 2007 | News | Playstation 3
The anticipated PS3 Ratchet & Clank is getting more closer to release as each seconds passes by and today Insomniac decided to reveal it's game's specifications. The game's size is at a very large 22 gigabytes from a 25GB Blu-Ray disc and runs very smoothly on 60 frames per second. The title will also support 720p and 1080i display settings on your hi-definition screens. The company also says that even with localizations, the game couldn't fit on a DVD9.
Set to run at 60 fps, the title will support both 720p and 1080i. For all you Resistance fans, they promise that all of their upcoming PS3 titles will support 60 fps (and that means Resistance 2 as well). Back to Ratchet and Clank, the title will take up a whopping 22 GB of a 25 GB Blu-ray disc. Even without the localizations, the title couldn't fit on a DVD9.

Great, I'm pleasantly surprised their able to make it run on 60 fps considering all the action which is on screen when fighting.

They obviously went to no lengths to compress anything. Just slapped it all on. But cool, I guess.

How MicroSoft can get something like Mass Effect onto DVD9 and Sony get something like this up to 22GB just means that they haven't compressed anything and are just showing off.

Actually they compress quite alot a game like this could be 80Gb's uncompressed, alot of this is the sound... With Blu-Ray developers can keep the sound at an ultra high standard, its the whole uncompressed vs mp3 debate all over again, anyone with ears will appreciate high definition sound, the PS3 with Blu-Ray is the only next generation console with the storage capacity to fit uncompressed HD sound, it can also leave textures to a level of uncompression we have never seen before, its nothing to do with showing off it is common sense, if you have the space you use it, until now developers have only had 8.5Gb's to mess with, Blu-Ray is like telling a kid he can buy everything he wants from the candy store, the kid will take advantage of the privelage and so do developers... And as Tallteen nicely stated compression reduces the quality, and as the PS3 exclusives are showing this level of uncompression is already showing results none of the competitors can match in the sound and graphics department...

Well, Compressing stuff DOES reduce quality, and increases load time...

Its nice to have (uncompressed audio and video)...

22GB will take up loads of space from your memory card, but it does increase the quality of the game...

I doubt it is going to cache 22 gigs on to your hard drive haha...the information on the disk is the 22 gigs...for all we know it wont even cache anything on the system itself

You mean hard drive and it isn't necessarily true.
