tidus04 | September 17, 2007 | News | Playstation 3
Hideo Kojima has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be the last, though he will not be in charge of that franchise. He went onto say that the new staff that will be able to take the MGS name and do what they wish with it.
Hideo Kojima has confirmed that the PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be the last Metal Gear Solid game as the franchise will continue on.

Hideo Kojima was asked whether or not it would be hard to say goodbuy to the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

He stated that it would not be the end of the Metal Gear Solid franchise after Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PS3.

He stated that the Metal Gear Solid franchise would be the like James Bond franchise and continue on even without Snake.

Kojima stated that it is hard to say goodbuy to Solid Snake as that was his baby.

He stated though that the new staff will be free to use the Metal Gear Solid name for a new franchise and do what they wish with it.

So it seems that Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be the end of the MGS franchise after all...

I read this as, MGS4 (in which Snake does actually die) will be exclusive to PS3 and only PS3, followed by a watered down series on multiple platforms, starring other characters. Eh, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but without Kojima, my hopes are not high.

Yeah it is why i hope Snake doesn't sneak onto the 360 this time around... This could seriously be the last great Metal Gear game.

It's good to hear it from him. Although he has stated before that as long as Gamers are willing to buy it, Metal Gear would be continued.

But he has also said on more than one occasion this is not the first time that he is quiting, Metal Gear lives on but the father is leaving the family so to speak.

    Kojima is Metal Gear Solid.

Without him it just won't be the same.

Good to hear but on the same side it is also sad to hear because of Kojima not being there in the future more then likely going by what it said.

Yeah, make the most of Metal Gear Solid 4, could be the last great game in the series. I don't really like it when he said that they would "continue on even without Snake".

Whats also funny is everyone is saying MGS will never be the same without Kojima(the father of MGS), yet same can be said for future PS systems. The father of Playstation Ken Kutaragi isn't around. So while i may not like that snake won't be around you shouldn't think MGS in the future would suck.

im actually looking forward to the next MGS after MGS4.

For some reason, I can see them making a FPS type of Metal Gear spin-off (or part of the main series)...Dunno why, but I can see it happening...

Ken Kutaragi was hopeless though and really didn't do much for any of the Playstation games, personally I'm glad Ken's gone. I mean did anything that guy say ever make sense?

If it wasn't for him PS systems would never exist Hence why he is the Father of Playstation. And he is a brilliant man. And i hope the guy taking over will bring good fortune in the future for Sony.

Every kind of Metal Gear game that Kojima was not personally involved in has pretty much been average at best. MG: Ghost Babel, MG Acid (2), Snake's Revenge...they should just let it rest after 4.

Kutaragi may be intelligent, but he is also arrogant. Sure he is the father of the PlayStation, but some of his mistakes are the reason the PS3 is behind right now. Kojima, on the other hand, is at his high point with MGS. I've said for years that he is the most creative genius in the industry, so to subtract him from this equation would be very big. and I know it was finalblade's bitch ass who gave me a thumbs down. What a kid.

Actually you can have a good arrogance, which is what Ken Kutaragi had. Arrogance isn't bad if used correctly, And that is called confidence, besides he didn't make any mistakes, if it wasn't for him, PS brands wouldn't be that dominate in the gaming industry.

Also its not how you start in the next gen is how you finish it and Sony has finished it on top for 2 gens straight now. So your point is moot.
