FASA Studios Shuts Their Doors

mclazyj | September 12, 2007 | News | PC XBOX 360 Company
After the lackluster sales of the game Shadowrun, FASA Studios closed its doors today. Some of the members will be brought into the MGS fold, but one has to wonder if Shadowrun got caught in a bigger Microsoft scheme to push Vista and Live for Windows.
Shadowrun was far from a success, only selling about 230,000 copies worldwide to date. It's unfortunate because I can't help but feel that the game was lost in Microsoft's cross-platform, Windows Live hype. I'm not sure that it indirectly made the game any worse but I think the extra attention might have actually done a disservice, overhyping the reality which was a markedly average game.

Come on, there is no way that Shadowrun could have sucked that badly. I played the demo and it was pretty fun. There has to be more to this closure than that.

Actually sales from a new team are a huge thing, look at clover, a few less than blockbuster releases and they nuked the team.

From what I've read of Shadowrun it was very lacklustre and by the look of those sales a lot of people agree.

Actually, when I saw it at CES, it was looked at as a big title that would show the effectiveness of the Live for Windows platform. Problem is that the game only had nine maps and no skirmish mode. It was more like an add on pack of mod, and definitely not worth $50 on the PC and $60 on the 360. When it comes down to $20, I will probably get it, although I still have to install Vista again if I want to play it online.

Tch, Shadowrun is fun as all hell when you get into it as long as you have Live. Granted vs bots is boring as all hell but vs people online doing all sorts of stuff and using different builds is rather fun.

What does other popular games have that Shadowrun doesn't have?

Even if it was a bad game, it couldn't have sucked so bad.

Perhaps they had invest everything in the game and expected to go much better than that...

It was a pretty decent game not worth $60 though. It had no single player and only 12 multiplayer maps. 3 of which were smaller levels. it just wasn't worth the buy.
