360 on Life Support in Japan

Final Blade | September 07, 2007 | News | XBOX 360 Company Gaming Tech/Hardware
Once again sales of the 360 in August in Japan have hit a new low with a meager 1% of the total console sales. According to Famitsu, Nintendo takes the cake with 75% of the mark and Sony 24%.

It seems that the 360 is becoming a lost cause in Japan and we may see more drastic measures by Microsoft to get sales there.
The 360 did manage to get one of its titles into the top 50, though, with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which sold 21,281 copies last month. It came in at number 48.

The UK just gave Microsoft a 260% jump in sales with the release of the Elite and lower priced Core/Pro packs.

The Xbox will never be successful in Japan; they're a very closed culture. I'm pretty sure only a small percentage of American products are successful over there.

I guess MS won't win the console war. Since MS stated they need Japan sales to win this gen. Why should Japan be open minded when there the most technological country in world, even to the U.S. I mean they always have superior products why do you think the majority of U.S products come from Japan and china

Did you just ask why a culture should be more accepting of others ideas?

        You're seriously *bleep*ed.

NO i asked why Japan should be open to accept other ideas from places thats not the same as there's. Thats like U.S accepting Ideas from Iran or North Korea, when obviously there idea's aren't the same with U.S. Also did you miss my point above here let me highlight it in bold if you missed it.
I mean they always have superior products why do you think the majority of U.S products come from Japan and china.
Our products like most Cars here for instance come from Japanese Dealerships, so its pretty Obvious Japan makes great stuff and have awesome things. Why should Japan take others if there making great things. Its just there Culture we can't change there Culture. If they don't mind sharing there stuff, but doesn't want to accept others thats fine its there country let them, there is more who may accept others.

You have alot to learn about Cultures, you can't just force them to accept others if most places don't even accept other religions as an example. Thats why the U.S is a diverse Country while some aren't. Thats the way the world works, i say Japan should feel free to choose what they want to do and what there used to.
I hope you know that The laws In china and Japan are very different from the U.S, some stuff that is accepted here isn't allowed there, which is why Jet Li stop making Hong Kong type movies. They(china)didn't like what he was doing. He was actually breaking some of their rules there.

Does this mean no Japanese games for the BOX anymore? If the developers there don't see any of their neighbors playing the BOX, what motivation would they have for making games for it?

"...Japan be open minded when there the most technological country in world...the majority of U.S products come from Japan and china..."
japan and china have a lower production cost because materials cost less, but i also disagree with the most technological country since the majority of it is on honshu in chiba, yokosuka, and tokyo. even then akihabara is the centerpoint. onto china since you used it as a technological example, have you been there? try goin to yunnan they have a giant statue of optimus prime. thats the only thing the have over north korea japan and american in terms of technological advances, hes not even funtional or an alloy of any type at that.

Does anyone think that Sony might actually start winning the console wars because of Racism in Japan?

While the 360 sells nothing in Japan the PS3 sells quite well and while the PS3 and doesn't sell quite as well as the 360 in Amercia they certainly aren't doing as bad as the 360 in Japan

The PS3 sells well everywhere the only reason for lower than average sales of the PS3 in other areas is because people are still buying the PS2... So while they aren't getting PS3 purchases they are as much as confirming future purchases when the 124 million PS2 owners upgrade to the PS3... And its hardly racism have you seen the games that sell in Japan, the 360 has nothing to appeal to their market, Japan loves Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Hot Shots Golf funnily enough all Playstation products, Microsoft need to change because it is true you need Japan to win a console war Sony didn't get 112 million PS1 purchases in America and Europe alone and they most ceratinly haven't gotten 124 million + purchases of the PS2 in America and Europe alone.

You'll absolutely see games from Japan on the 360. As long as they are developing for Sony they will likely port to the 360. More money for them right?

Additionally, it's like the Japanese are oblivious to the market of gamers in the US and UK and so on. They'll make games to bring the Benjamins in.

Thats simple its cause Japan doesn't like 360, and devs know that most won't sell very well there. Thats the problem with the 360. there. Hell even look at Blue Dragon I mean yea for a RPG on 360 its doing better than we all thought but its not nearly as much as the average RPG game in Japan. Most RPGs in japan sell Millions in a few(2-3)days of its launch and it still hasn't reached or break 200,000 so i can't see More RPGs for 360 with sales like that in japan.

Also how are they Oblivious. Care to elaborate.

Not only that, Nintendo and Sony both originated from Japan. So of course they will outsell Microsoft in Japan.

It's really no surprise that Nintendo is up there in the lead.

^ I mean, it's freaking Japan. Why would ppl buy a FOREIGN console that sucked anyways? ^

I say, MS may as well completely remove 360 off the Japanese market.
