Nintendo: Sony and Microsoft are gas-guzzlers, we prefer the hybrid approach

mistermostyn | September 05, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
The corporate back-biting continues this week with Nintendo's George Harrison offering that the competition are the equivalent of atmosphere-destroying SUVs, while Nintendo is the eco-friendly hybrid motor that loves the planet and everything upon it. Hmm.
We've already heard Sony's analogy about meals to describe its distaste (hohoho) for its rivals, and now Nintendo's George Harrison has spoken out about the 'competition' by comparing the strategies of Sony and Microsoft to gas guzzling trucks while labelling Nintendo as an environmentally aware and eco-friendly individual.

It's kinda true in terms of power consumption but what he said is a bit arrogant. Nintendo had to say SOMETHING with all the haters talking about Wii.

Did you even read the article!?! Harrison was not comparing the consoles to cars, he was comparing the consumer base of each console!

What Harrison said was that Sony and Microsoft are appealing to a specific group of people, those that go out and buy expensive things just to have expensive, much like many of the people who have to buy the giant SUVs. He then goes on to say Nintendo is appealing to a different, more financially motivated group.

To sum it up, Sony and Microsoft are selling to people who want to brag about having a $400+ console, while Nintendo is selling to those who want a $250 console. Please actually read a source before commenting based off misinformative summary.

Regardless, he is wrong. I didn't buy a 360 and a PS3 to brag that I have money or just to own two expensive pieces of gaming equipment. I bought them for the games, imagine that! Nintendo doesn't offer anything for me. It has nothing at all to do with money, Nintendo is just corny to me and I'm sick to my stomach of them playing this whole "for the people" role. Its tired. Yes I know all three companies are guilty of mud slinging, but Nintendo continues to take this stand as if they are doing something good for us and the competition should follow the leader. No, this is completely wrong. Each company offers something different and that is the beauty of choice. If Nintendo appeals to one person, fine, but you couldn't pay me to buy a Wii/DS. Its not a stand I am taking against Nintendo, I just do not like what they produce.

they have been showing efforts to promote this image for themselves. Nintendo demo'd their wii in the smart cars, and appeals to the family and encourages social interaction through games. Unlike the other two consoles that focus more on intense single player experience, even if it is multiplayer online, it's about being the best by yourself while sitting alone in your room.. while your family is having dinner without you..

This kind of arrogance is reaching my patience...in fact, Nintendo should just step the *bleep* away from Microsoft and Sony and leave them to their own war, since time and time again they consider themselves "stand alone", THEN GTFO.

How the hell do you show off with a half a grand console again???

Nintendo...dudes...some people would actually like to play Bioshock instead of Metroid Prime 3 because...I dunno...the game is THAT good? (I know it's hard to believe, but just bear with me, k?)

You know why is Nintendo talking shit again. This is what gets me mad, First Nintendo and and everyone else claims there not in war with 360 and PS3 and yet they make stupid comments like this.

Nintendo Listen to me right now, if your not in "war" with 360 and PS3 then don't say shit like this and make the games and do your own thing.

Stuff like this shows your how hypocritical they are. I like Nintendo but still, this is getting annoying.

I disagree with the analogy but not the point. And Finalblade that seems to be what they were doing however badly, they used a rather poor explanation.

Wow, my opinion wasn't in line with a Nintendo representative. And I call myself a fan boy, I can't believe I could mess up like this. Well that just ruins the whole Month, and to think my birthday is coming up.

They were trying to explain the the family audience being more for the Wii than the other two. However they were also trying to remind gamers that car owners with bigger machines tend to have a small one too, to a level. They seemed to be trying to do it fairly. Unfortunately in their analogy they seem to have miscalculated. They seem to have implied the point of power consumption without really meaning too. They also miscalculated again in that the Wii and the Xbox360/PS3 have more difference than size, space and whether the engine is nice and loud, or nice and quiet. Alot more as we all know.

The arrogance of this is staggering... Lets continue this though. Nintendo is like the Scion interesting but only good when you buy extra parts made by Scion. PS3 in 360 are like import tuners. Sure they come with customization but they have great 2nd party support as well to make them that much better. As for Nintendo call me back when you have some good games that haven't been developed by Nintendo.
