Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Using Havok Physics

TwilightPrince | August 25, 2007 | News | Wii Company
According to the official Havok website, the upcoming Wii entry to the Super Smash Bros. series will use 'Havok Physics.' By using dynamical simulation, Havok allows for more lifelike worlds and animation, such as ragdoll physics. Brawl is the first game in the series to use Havok Physics.

Also on the list of Wii games using Havok Physics is Disaster: Day of Crisis, Nintendo's upcoming action-survival game.

Interesting. They usually use their own engines, if I'm not mistaken. Melee used the engine they built for that Kirby game (that never came out). I'm guessing it's just physics, though. Havok is quite a good engine, really. F.E.A.R. and Assassin's Creed are two of the games that use it.

Lets hope they take advantage of it well.

    That's actually pretty funny.

Here's a list of games using Havok. Halo 2, Gears of War, Oblivion, HL2, it's rather popular.

I was only gonna buy the Wii for the SSB game to begin with, the fact that its now mostly gonna be more realistic is pleasing to me.

I can't imagine Smash Bros using a realistic physics engine like Havoc. Wouldn't that change the way the game is played?

Sorry, but what's the difference between Havoc physics and the physics of Melee? Are they similar?

Ragdoll features and other things. People won't fall in the same way almost every time it will be different among other things.

Are you kidding me, borderline real physics will make beating up Ness and Jigglypuff all the more rewarding, thus making the great game greater. Besides since the key to the game is blasting the enemies bodies about this could be rather useful.

What the hell is going on, I just saw some screen suggesting technical difficulties, and now that I have tried to post my point again it turns out my last post went through.

Sounds pretty cool. The new physics in this game are sure to make it even better then already thought. I think these new physics will look rather great, plus give a rewarding feel as you kill Jigglypuff and other characters.

The best physics I've seen were from Age of Empires III. Then again, it wasn't life-like people being an RTS and all, but it still looked sweet, heh. Can't wait 'till the 3rd of December.
