Who has the best end-of-year line-up?

mistermostyn | August 21, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
Want to know where to spend your software savings between now and the dawn of 2008? Unsure about the strength and depth of the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and PlayStation 3? Why not take a look at GamerSquad's appraisal of all the best platform titles coming your way between now and the holiday season... bring your debating skills too.
The videogame industry’s annual summer drought is finally coming to an end (Editor Stevie has been dreading his weekly New Releases post for months), and the collective sighs of relieved retailers is now audibly mixing with the breathy anticipation of developers gearing up to unleash their wares upon the expectant masses.

In celebration of 2007’s richest gaming months still being ahead of us, this lowly writer discusses which of the big three home consoles (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii) has the best to offer eager gamers between now and the dawn of 2008.

Oh, and just for the record, cross-platform releases and time-delayed exclusives have been discounted in favour of concentrating on titles that are permanently restricted to one console or another.

You posted an article that says the Wii has the potential to have the best year?

Gimme a break. This is NOT NEWS. It's someone's opinion.

I pretty much agree with this article completely.

The Wii has the best Holiday lineup, with MP3: Corruption ending the summer drought, and Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros Brawl releasing weeks apart. In between these 'big three' games, the Wii will also see RE: Umbrella Chronicles, Battalion Wars 2, No More Heroes, RRR2, and Zack & Wiki releasing.

The 360 has the second best lineup, with Halo 3, Mass Effect, and PGR4 releasing in Sept, Oct, and Nov.

Then comes the PS3, which has Ratchet & Clank and Heavenly Sword releasing in the Fall. The article fails to mention Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, which I'm looking forward to more then R&C and Heavenly Sword combined.

Agreed. The Wii, in my opinion, does have the best lineup from now 'til the end of the year, especially since Nintendo delayed the Big 3, as well as Battalion Wars II. They were all either supposed to be launch titles or coming out within 6 months of launch. Third parties seem to have quite a few in store, as well. Zack and Wiki and No More Heroes look like excellent games, the first Rayman was quite fun and the second looks even better, and Umbrella Chronicles has caught my attention. It's about time the Wii got some good exclusives, rather than the shoddy PSP/PS2 ports it's been getting a lot of lately.

The 360 also has a great lineup. Halo 3 is a huge game, and although I'm not a big Halo fan, I'm sure I'll still find the online multiplayer great. Mass Effect looks interesting, too. However, I'm really eying Eternal Sonata. I've been rather RPG-deprived lately and Famitsu loved it (getting 3 9/10 ratings and an 8/10 is quite impressive). Nice to see the 360 getting some RPGs, too. The Xbox was lacking in that field.

I love Ratchet and Clank, and I'm in love with Tools of Destruction. Heavenly Sword looks somewhat interesting. It's a shame MGS4 was delayed, however. It does have some great multiplatform titles coming out this holiday, too. This list is dealing strictly with exclusives, however.

Uh, revenger of wastelan, I understand if the line-up doesn't interest you and all, but there is only one Mario game ...

Wii is all about Mario. Im not a Mario player. The PS3 line-up looks great. The Xbox 360 line-up is made of stuff i could play on a really good PC.

PS3 wins this one for me.

I agree, xbox games can easily be played on PC, wii has mario but im not fond of them milking mario though, but i am looking forward to SSBB, PS3 has many ill titles that im just itching to play for PS3 only.

      PS3 does win for me.

The Wii has completely taken me by surprise. When i first saw it I wasn't too sure that it would be such a hit, but articles like these are showing just how wrong I was. Good on Nintendo.

This all kinda hinges on the tastes of the player. Not everyone's going to love the style the Wii offers, so the lineup probably won't mean much to them.

Style? Wtf are you talking about? Pretty much all of those games are of different tastes. You have to be one hell of a picky gamer to find nothing there of interest. Even if you're just talking about the use of the Wii-mote, there are even a few games there that are nothing more than button-mashing. Please elaborate.

Because it takes more than a couple of games that appeal to win someone over? Feel free to look over comments by fans of Sony and Microsoft. Hell, look at some of the comments on this article alone. You'll find some people are not interested in what the Wii offers. Or do you think love of stuff like Mario is universal?

I'm not saying the Wii lineup is bad at all. I'm looking forward to the likes of SSBB, SMG and MP3C myself. I'm just saying that you can't really say any one lineup is actually best because it depends greatly on what appeals to you.

They've got a platformer, an FPS, and a fighter with standard controls. That's variety, son.

Congratulations. You know a total of three games coming out for the Wii.

And I know what your saying Insanity, but I'm saying that the only games coming out aren't just MP3, Galaxy and Brawl. Two of the three Sony/Xbox fans who posted here thought all that was coming out was Mario gamers, and the only thing the Wii couldn't satisfy to the third was a good sports game.

I'd say PS3 started as the biggest hit, but IMO, the most popular now is Wii.

The Wii will probably take the cake, once again. With the possibility of Zelda Wii hitting stores next year, I'd say they've already got 2008 in the bag as well.
