PlayStation 3 complications caused GTA IV delay - analyst

Supernouva | August 03, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
It seems the fingers are now pointed at the PS3 for causing the delay of the much anticipated GTA IV. According to the analyst, struggling development of the PS3 version has caused the delay, and the X360 version also has to wait due to a contract that prevents the publisher from releasing it on the 360 first. Are they justified in charging the PS3 for the staggering development of GTA IV?
Analyst Michael Pachter believes Rockstar has delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto IV because it is struggling with development on the PlayStation 3.

And the Xbox 360 version of the game has suffered at least a six month delay as a result, due to contractual obligations that will have prevented the publisher from releasing the game first on Microsoft's machine, says the analyst.

"We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognise how far away from completion the game truly was until recently," said Pachter.

"We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favour competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version," he added.

Iam getting so sick of Rockstar lately, all they seem to do is bitch, moan and complain at the PS3. Its your freaking jobs, stop whining and do what you have to, not make excuses.

Uhh...so...how'd they reach those conclusions? Wouldn't it make sense if Rockstar themselves said it? Wouldn't make a difference if they said so or not, it wouldn't affect them.

If SO, they would've never taken the money Microsoft gave them?

To quote the article... "Analyst Michael Pachter believes"

Great job in regarding this as fact everyone, this is pure speculation. I love how everyone hears an industry analyst and automatically takes their word as fact.

    Amazing.

... Its the fact that everything seems to be the PS3's fault when it comes to Rockstar ...
Like said, its just what some random person believes has happened - why have analyst' became so involved in the gaming world all of a sudden as well

This is crazy funny. Didn't somebody just say the PS3 is easy to work with? This guy obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

If anything the 360 is slowing it down with it's extra features. We know that isn't true either.

Rubbish. I think the reason is because Rockstar spent most of their time developing the 360's version and leaving the PS3 stay behind.

Analysis or not, from what I have read and to be honest it is quite a good bit at the moment I would still put the blame on Sony, as I do think it was them. One the game not being ready and any errors with the game that need to be fixed wont allow the 360 to be released hence a deal they made previously. I think that was official and all.

Same thing can be said for the 360 version, IN FACT, wasn't it said before that the first delayed was because of the 360?

          Me or him :angle:

I believe what I stated was fact by what they said so you know. I dont think this game has been at fault with Microsoft at anytime during the production.

And I can almost guarantee you it'll always go right back to the PS3. That is the curse Sony bears with the PS3.

Guarantee? On what grounds? You got UT3, Haze, RE5 going without a hitch...and GTA IV's an exception? I'll believe it when it's confirmed.

    Curse, what curse?

Why does everyone always instantly assume its the PS3 version, for all we know the 360 is delaying it because they have to compress it severally to cram all the content in

Now whether this is true or not can be argued (as it has been) but I wouldn't be suprised if what he is suggesting is actually the real reason behind the delay.

If so then it's a bummer but 360 gamers shouldn't moan, we got given GTA which was a big blow for Sony, asking for us to get it 6 months earlier is asking for way too much,
