Peter Moore Resigns From Microsoft To Go To EA

Krunal | July 17, 2007 | News | PC Xbox Company Gaming Tech/Hardware
This isn't something that happens everyday, but todays the day where it seems to have happened. Peter Moore, a big name in the gaming industry, and the Corporate Vice President of IEB (Interactive Entertainment Business) is resigning from Microsoft for personal reasons.
Peter Moore, who currently serves as corporate vice president of IEB, has decided to move his family back to the Bay Area for personal reasons and has secured another opportunity in the video games industry.
Replacing him will be Don Mattrick, who was the former president of Electronic Arts Inc., whose job will now include overseeing the XBOX and Games for Windows businesses.

Mattick will be taking over the position of senior vice president of IEB at Microsoft, effective from July 30th. Previously in senior positions at EA (as mentioned above), he resigned from Worldwide Studios in Feb 2006 and joined Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft as an external advisor in Feb 2007.

Oh and there's also a twist... he's new employer is none other than Electronic Arts, the former employer of Mattrick.
“Peter has contributed enormously to the games business since joining Microsoft in 2003 and we are sad to see him go,” said Robbie Bach, president of Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. “Since that time, he presided over the global launch of the Xbox 360™, spearheaded a revitalized and rebranded Games for Windows business, and helped steer the console’s ascent.”

Moore has decided to return with his family to Northern California, where they lived until he took the position at Microsoft. Moore will remain at Microsoft to assist in the transition through August and will then return to the San Francisco Bay area.

Umm....wow. That's all I can really say on this. This is really unexpected. I wonder how things are going to go with Don Mattrick.

What the hell? This man seemed happy at the interviews he did as well as at E3. This is quite sudden and unexpected, alright. I mean, I may not have respected his take on Sony's plans, but he was a major help for Xbox.

The thing I was most shocked about is the fact that he has been giving interviews after interviews for Microsoft recently, I mean I think I've head his name the most the last week or so than any other company representative. And now he's leaving... not only leaving but going to ELECTRONIC ARTS. I wonder if he will make anything for the PS3...

This was totally unexpected, it's a major loss for Microsoft. I don't think Don Mattrick will have enough enthusiasm to tattoo game releases on his arm.

I personally think the Electronic Arts thing is a cover and that he is going back to SEGA to start work on their top-secret console

Why in the world would that make him a perv? Do you even KNOW the definition of the word perv (short for pervert)? The only word I could think you mean is Hypocritical, and even then, I can't think why you would use that word for this situation.

Yes, I suppose the proper word would be hypocritical, but it's not like he was trashing EA before he joined them. He was talking about all the plans he had for Microsoft or more so, the Xbox 360 and then he leaves the team, not to pursue his plans?
