Microsoft claims 8 million Xbox 360 sales in Europe, over a million more than the PS3

JamieSI | January 05, 2009 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
Strategy Informer reports that Microsoft has revealed its best Christmas yet for the Xbox 360, with over 8 million sales in Europe, putting it ahead of the PS3 by more than one million.
GfK-ChartTrack data shows that Xbox 360 was the fastest-growing console of 2008, with sales in the fourth quarter of 2008 over double that of the same period in 2007, spurred on by a mix of value, great games and entertainment, and the recently-launched New Xbox Experience.

We all know it's bullshit, because they know the PS3 has outsold them. And how many times have Microsoft claimed to be ahead in the console wars? Exactly.

The first part of the title would have been fine, but I suppose everything has to be a competition when it comes to PS3 and 360,
    doesn't it?

Ehh .. I think it was just a matter of aggressive price-cuts ( the second one, the first one didn't affect much )

I agree, I highly doubt NXE spurred people to buy an Xbox.

Only a million more even though the PS3 has been selling for only half the time the 360's been selling for. This doesn't bother me at all.

Good news for Microsoft, although the fact that Sony (as Shadow2k5 stated) has been out for sale for less time, is worrying.

Yes, maybe, but it says microsoft claims to have sold 1 million more. They could just be boasting.

Boasting? The Xbox 360 has been out for 3 years in Europe, The PlayStation 3 has been out not even 2 years in Europe and the Xbox 360 has only sold a million more, it should be much higher.

I think you all arent catching on to what they are saying, they are talking about the 4th Quarter of 2008 alone, not since release.

The PS3 and 360 have very little difference, besides build-up and exclusives, so I'm wondering why Microsoft haven't sold more.

Precisely as BlackLabel and Shadow2k5 put, this should not be good for MS, they should be worrying that a year's head start has only granted them a million sale lead.

This is better news for Sony that it is for Microsoft. Nice to hear the PS3 is doing well. People are running out of reasons very fats to say it has a poor software lineup.

I just got my PS3 and am I regretting it? Um no, not quite. Microsoft can jump and cheer at the 360 getting more sales than the PS3 this Christmas, but for now im happy with my PS3.

I like the PS3 a little bit more only because it is free. However, both systems are great, no major complaints (except friendlist size in XBox 360 could be @ 200 not, 100).

Good job for the 360. They deserve the recognition.

Eh, it's just like any other news. If Sony and Microsoft were switched, I'm sure we'd be hearing the same thing, just with PS3 in the headlines.

Good news, the PS3 is an epic fail, while the Xbox fails less.

i have a 360, but ps3 isnt a epic fail its pretty sweet, at least with the ps3 you dont have to buy certain accesories like the "networking wireless adapter" or if you got an arcade/core a hardrive because there built in so its cool

Xeros the Slayer: No, we're correct. 8million sales in Europe is the total sold in Europe by Xmas 2008.
