Top 10 Best Selling Games Over Christmas in the UK

Spurs_Rule_And_Rock | December 28, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 2
So. Call of duty has been the best selling game in the whole of the UK for the 5 weeks before christmas. A month before christmas, FIFA wasn't even in the top 10 best selling games at the time. But now it's worked it's way all the way to the top selling game in the UK. Thats right, FIFA 09 on the Playstation 3.
Of course, we can’t say otherwise about Activision or Nintendo, even though the companies could be a bit upset they did not manage to break some records with their titles. But maybe next year… until then, here are the bestselling titles in the UK:

1. FIFA 09
2. Call of Duty: World at War
3. Mario Kart Wii
4. Need For Speed Undercover
5. Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training
6. Wii Play
7. Quantum of Solace
8. Professor Layton and the Curious Village
9. Tomb Raider Underworld
10. Wii Fit

Professor Layton is the only game on that list that interests me.

However, I am surprised that the list isn't littered with Wii shovelware.

Shovelware games don't sell very well at all, but because of the low low low low production values, they still make money.

I chalk Fifa 09 being top of the list up to the gaming being mulitplatform and even on the ps2 (some of us haven't upgraded yet )

Fifa deserves to be up there. It's a game with excellent gameplay, excellent graphics and excellent online.

And there's the FIFA licence as well which means you get a *bleep*tonne of leagues, teams and player appearances.

What did I tell you guys? Wii Fit, Wii Play, and Brain Training are all up there. And you thought I was joking.

It's all the parents who are either buying stuff for their kids on Wii, or for parents who want to get fit using the Wii.

Because honestly, that top sellers list is pretty bland.

I got Guitar Hero on wii recently. I'm very happy at how amazing it is. Now i'm surprised there isn't a single Guitar Hero game up there. Did anybody else notice that?

I thought we had an article about FIFA 09's success already? I don't mind, I love FIFA games. I had to rent out Mario Kart Wii at Blockbuster Video just to play it, since it's been completely sold out here for awhile. It was a big Christmas hit, as this list mentions.

I clicked on this article. Saw the list. Disappointment followed. All the big blockbuster games came out before December, though, and this is just in the UK.

Jesus... Almost the whole list is Nintendo games. COD and FIFA deserve to be on top though.

Wii play? Are you kidding me? I've seen screens and read reviews, and I don't wanna touch that "game" with a 10 foot rod!
Looks like casual gamers have struck the markets for christmas.

The only reason I, and probably everyone here, bought Wii Play was for the Remote.

I actually went ahead and just bought a WiiMote instead. The GameStop clerk asked me if I wanted WiiPlay instead since it was just $10 more, and I told him I'd rather pay $10 less for the WiiMote than $10 more with a game I'd never want to play. I had played WiiPlay over a friend's house and I didn't care much for it.

Wii Play is a first buy if you've got a wii. Pracise all the other games, however decent

I didn't get any or those games over Christmas.

Call of Duty would have been the only one I would have wanted though.

No Mario Kart? Its a really great game, I tell you. It has more than excellent online..

The Americans hack more. Japanese are very honest people.

And please, lord monkey doesn't even have a Wii. Why would he want Mario Kart?

On second hand, why would he want a Wii?

I have to say. When you play against japanese people on Mario Kart DS, you get a hacker in every group! Seriously! One in every GROUP. WEll, it's a japanese person, or an american who glitched the game by trying to eat the cartridge.
