EA Closing Nine Studios Including Black Box

PacoDG | December 19, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 2
Wow, I am still trying to recover from the Free Radical news here and now read this. EA closing nine studios and a bunch more people going to be jobless for the holidays :(
Let's look at the stats:

* 1,000 employees without jobs (bout 10% of EA's global workforce)
* $120 mil in company savings
* Restructuring charges of $55 - 65 mil

EA has yet to name the other eight studios it will be shutting down, but it did announce that it will be relocating some employees and franchises to offices in Burnaby, British Columbia.

    The credit crunch strikes again =(
    While this doesn't look good at all for EA, this might be the start of something better for them. If they are restructuring everything, then maybe things will turn out well?

    Personally i think this has more to do with EA trying not to make as much shit as they are, Skate 2 will probably still be made it'll just a more internal studio to EA than Black Box, which will actually push Skate up the pecking order as far as quality and money spent on it.

      Rock Band ? Battlefield ? Boom Blox ? Beetle Adventure Racing on N64!! Fight Night ? Crysis ? Dead Space ?? FIFA ? Left 4 Dead (I know this is Valve, but EA does publish this on consoles) ? Madden ? Mass Effect ? The last Oddworld game ? Sims/Spore ?

      Honestly, I used to have a distaste for the company, but so far this past year they have really regained my trust and have some of the better releases (if anything, they have nearly no competition in the publishing department as far as having something for everybody).
