Between 2007 and 2008, what year has better video games?

NSX | July 24, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
2007 graced us with Halo 3, Project Gotham Racing 4, and Call of Duty 4, while 2008 so far introduced us Grand Theft Auto IV, and will release Gears of War 2 later on this year. The question is which year has/had the upper hand it when it comes to overall games?
2007 was a great year for video games. We handed out three 10/10 scores and were bombarded with great releases. At the end of the year, as we picked our top 10 games of 2007 we looked to 2008 and sighed. "It'll never be as good as this year" we thought. But were we wrong? Now E3 2008 is over and the big publishers have revealed their full 2008 line-ups (barring any big, unexpected surprises) we can take a stab at working out if 2008 has got what it takes to take on the might of 2007's Halo 3, Mass Effect, BioShock and Call of Duty 4. We thought it would be a one-sided blood bath, but things weren't nearly so clear cut.

I'd say 2008 for sure. The best game out of 2007 IMO was CoD4, and that's still one of my favorite games to play, but 2008 has a ton of great games as well. GTA4, MGS4, Smash Bros. Brawl, etc.

Totally agree, and this year is barely half over ...we still got Gears of War 2, Fallout 3 and Saints Row 2 on the way.

And hopefully StarCraft II and Spore. ^^ But yeah, the amount of good quality games this year outweigh last year's. I wonder how 2009 will respond.

    I agree, CoD4 was 2007 GotY, imo.

Tough one, '07 had Halo 3, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, and Call of Duty 4..

I really can't pick one, they were both epic.

I used to not think 2007 could be topped, but even early this year showed too much promise to ignore. Usually the hits don't start until the Fall, but we've already had GTA IV and Metal Gear Solid 4 early in the year. We still have Resistance 2, Gears 2, Saint's Row 2, LittleBigPlanet, Fable 2, Too Human, Prince of Persia, Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, The Agency, SOCOM, Home and whatever Wii and PC games you can add, not to mention the console sales picking up. If Killzone 2 and inFamous made the cut, it would be overload, but this year definitely is the biggest year for gaming.

Yeah, but what if all of those games turn out to be total ass? Or some of them could get delayed until 09.

You can't really say which year had better games for about five months.

Well I think it would be a freak accident if every one of those games sucked, but I was talking about sales, not the "best" games.

Oh, well I really don't think all of those games will suck either. I'm just the "what if?" kinda guy, you know?

Regardless of which year was better for gaming, I think it's pretty safe to say the 2007 and 2008 together owned the shit out the rest of the decade.

It's wrong to make a top 10 list of '08 games when we are only at July. Half of the games stated weren't even rated. Mirror's Edge looks tasty though.
