Jack Tretton Lashes Out Against Microsoft's Third Party 'Currying'

paulhunter | July 16, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360 E3 2008
NextGen Player reports on an E3 roundtable Q&A where Jack Tretton, President of SCEA, attacks Microsoft's strategy of subsidizing third party developers in return for publishing games on the Xbox 360 platform.
It seems gamers were not the only ones shocked by Square-Enix's announcement of a multi-platform Final Fantasy XIII release. Speaking at an E3 roundtable Q&A, President of SCEA Jack Tretton has lashed out against Microsoft, implying that the company has spent most of their money "trying to curry favor with third parties".

As much as I hate Microsoft for buying out Square Enix I feel like saying to Jack "maybe you should try buying third parties as well?"

So what exactly is wrong with buying exclusives?

Maybe they should stop claiming that Blu-Ray will win the war for them and actually get some third party exclusives?

Tretton's strategy actually sounds pretty damn good. Helping with the development of the game instead of just buying it, in hopes of gaining favor of the original developers and all...unless I'm misunderstanding something.

No, The developers will be like
:"Sony DOES know that this game is 360 exclusive right?, Lol Oh well, Cuts down on production costs"

Then sony are like: " So any chance of coming to PS3"

Developer: "Lol no, Microsoft paid us a couple of mill and made us sign a contract, Thanks for the help though"

      Sony: ERROR 9987 *Implodes*

      Or something along those lines.
