Burnout Paradise Trophies Details

Mnmfan | July 02, 2008 | News | Playstation 3
Yet more Trophies coming to a game near you soon.
Designer Simon Phipps at Criterion game posted on the Official Boards last night announcing Trophies coming to Burnout soon.

Simon isn't one to shy away from answering comments posted on the boards and he was extremely helpful and willing to clear things up for people. The main story that the source links to is only have the info. The good stuff can be read in the comments.

It has been confirmed that the Trophies for Burnout Paradise WILL be retroactive. In other words everything you've earned before the patch WILL rewards you a Trophy once the patch is released.

He also went on to say that downloading save files won't work as Burnout Saves are tied to you PSN name.

And talking of upcoming PlayStation-specific features, we’d like to confirm here that Criterion WILL be supporting PlayStation Trophies in a future update of Burnout Paradise. It won’t be the Codename: Cagney update, but Trophies will be coming to Paradise soon.

Okay, here’s what we can say about the details:

  • Trophies will be retroactive, so, if you’ve achieved something today, the day the update arrives (not Cagney, we want to emphasise) that will be reflected in your Trophies.

  • Your Burnout Paradise save game has always been locked to your PSN id - so there’s never been any chance of trading save games - your progress is your progress (we have a way of thinking ahead for this kind of stuff!)

You won’t have to go back and replay.

I can’t speak for other developers or what it says in the FAQ - I only know that we made a conscious decision during the development of Burnout Paradise to lock your save game to your PSN id to guarantee that your efforts are genuinely recorded. This also means that we can support Trophies retroactively in a future update of the game.

Probably not. Burnout Paradise is older then games like MGS4 and GTA4 so hopefully R* and Kojima were clever enough to lock saves to the PSN ID.

    And don't call me Shirley.

Yes! See, if they can do it, then why can't all trophies be retroactive? This method is actually exactly what I said should happen. The save file is one thing, but obviously your PSN ID can't be copied, so it acts as authorization. I really hope the other games' patches will do this too. Anyway, I'm really excited for the next Burnout update.

LMAO wow, come on people all games should be retroactive for the reasons we stated earlier. It pains me to see only Criterion doing shit right.

This is why Sony leaving this crap up to developers is ineffective; some things will be implemented differently in games, so it won't be consistent.

HA, that was my theory, ages ago. That is to say, tying game saves to specific PSN IDs....

I would imagine most games released after the time that trophies were announced, would likely have something that allows retroactive trophies. Not all, but probably some, and more as time went on.

Some games even have a sort of list that shows you've achieved something (Uncharted is a prime example, it even assigns points for them, 1000 total, like MS's gamerscore)....Fatal Inertia also has this sort of thing (sans points though, but that is just as well)....
