Blizzard Confirms Next-Gen MMO

AznLiquid | July 01, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 3
World of Starcraft?
Lost Vikings franchise revival?

Considering the time it took Blizzard to announce Diablo III, don't expect much more news about this game for a while.
"There is still one unknown project," Blizzard executive VP Rob Pardo revealed to OnlineWelten during the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational. "We have another development team."

Pardo affirmed that Blizzard's recent job listings for an "unannounced next-gen MMO" were not related to Diablo III. The company had previously stated that the project was not a World of Warcraft expansion either.

Fans have long speculated that Blizzard may follow the ultra-successful World of Warcraft with a World of StarCraft MMO. The three-faction scenario and multi-world setting would seem to lend itself well to the MMO format.

Others believe that the project could be a new franchise, as Blizzard has not created a new property since StarCraft's release in 1998.

I'm so praying for WoS, that would rock.

Space of Starcraft? SoS sounds better than WoS, as it could be said like SOS.

Lol, I actually like "World of Starcraft" a lot more that "Space of Starcraft."

World of...Diablo??? I really doubt it, though. But I can dream...

World of Starcraft would actually be really good, I think, because it would be like WoW but with three main factions. So instead of just Alliance and Horde, we'd have Zerg and....the other two races. I actually totally forgot the other two...I think Proton or Protoss and something like Terran?

    :_shame:

EDIT: Oh, goddamnit! Now I can't remember how to do the shame smiley....Lol, I suck, today.....

I would play World of Starcraft if my computer didn't suck so much.

Here's a breakdown of the races, Drogo Baggins:

Zerg: Mindless, savage warrior race controlled by brain-like Cerebrates
      Terran: Humans
Protoss: Technologically advanced race with psionic powers

"World of Starcraft" would seem like an easy choice but it really has to be some crazy shit. They have to pull off space travel, and the many vehicles that are iconic to the series.

Hey, thanks, Azn. It's been soooooo long since I've played Starcraft.

I really didn't think about the space travel aspect, though. That would actually make things a bit difficult.

maybe if a Starcraft MMO is made new races could be made for that game or maybe even Starcraft 2 has secret Races we don't know about.

The Xel'Naga are pretty much confirmed to be in SC2.

Skip to 7:00 of the video to see what I mean.

There is also a mysterious "hybrid race"(Protoss/Zerg mix) that has remained a secret so far.

Personally, I'm hoping for World of Lost Vikings. =)

Yeah, The Lost Vikings games and Starcraft are the only notable games by Blizzard other than Diablo and Warcraft. So it's likely one of those two if this game isn't based Warcraft or Diablo.

It could be an entirely new idea, but I doubt it, or, moreso, I hope it's not. I think it's much easier to not only easier to immerse the players in a world that already exists in some way, but also much easier for developers to make a game based off of a pre-existing idea. So I think this MMO will be much better if it's based off of a past game from Blizzard.

I'm not a fantasy fan so a WoS would be really awesome IMHO.

Wacky idea which I don't think will happen: Maybe they are planning a Diablo 3 multiplayer game, and then a World Of Diablo Diablo game with full MMORPG elements using the same engine.

You'd think with the massive amount of players on WOW and Diablio 3 coming up there have enough online games but I guess there's always room for one more

Blizzard is not satisfied with controlling 60% of MMO subscribers. They want to completely dominate the online market.

I'm hoping it's not an SC MMO. Between that and SC2, Blizzard will basically own my soul.

I think the only MMO that could own my soul would be an Elder Scrolls MMO....I would just die from lack of sleep or starvation...

I love Starcraft and Warcraft, though. They're the only RTS's to ever grab my attention. I think Blizzard is truly a great company.
