Better By Design: Can Just Anyone Design a Game?

gamingverdict | June 24, 2008 | News | Misc
Alex Trowers from the old Bullfrog talks about the finer points of design. Can the average Tom, Dick or Harry design game? Apparently the gaming industry comes to that conclusion.
By far, the most common response from people when they find out what I do for a living is “Hey – I’ve got a great idea for a game.”

This then forces me to feign enthusiasm and listen to their magnum opus despite the fact that I know exactly what will happen next. Sure enough, the overwhelming majority of these people don’t have a great idea for a game. What they do have, in fact, is a great idea for a story for a game.

No I dont think any one can design a game.

Things just seem good on paper but aren't good in the game, And most people would not realize that.

excellent read. This hints at the tip of the huge iceberg that is game development. One part about gaming that I always find facinating is the levelling system in RPGs. It's so important, and must take a team of mathematicians to make sure everything is balanced!
