Developer shortages see the UK struggle

Delexo | June 20, 2008 | News | Company Misc
The gaming industry is becoming more lucrative by the day but behind the big numbers and fancy graphics and problem has begun to arise. Namely in the UK.

It appears the UK is facing a shortage of skilled developers and David Braben, chairman of Frontier Development, is blaming the education and the government. The lack of skilled workers has seen the UK slip to fourth in game development.
David Braben, chairman of Frontier Development and spokesman for the industry's "Games Up?" campaign, believes 95% of video game degrees aren't preparing students for the real world of development. He says that there is no standardization and only four out of the 81 British universities have Skillset accreditation for video games degrees, which he believes makes the other 77 schools a "waste of time."
