Microsoft Avatars = Nintendo Miis

Deathsythe | June 16, 2008 | News | Wii XBOX 360 Company Misc
Seems like Microsoft is trying to emulate some of the best features of the Wii. And worst yet - they are getting away with it as semi-original. These new "XBox avatars" seem an awful lot like Mii clones if you asked me.
Well, well, well, what have we here? Looks like we're finally getting some real evidence that Microsoft really does have some sort of response to Nintendo's Miis on the way. It's been rumored for some time now and the above shot of the linked flash page seems to portend the end of the rumors. Giving the rumor more credibility is that the information contained in the image, supposedly taken from an online survey, conforms to details recently given to Joystiq by a trusted source. These "Xbox Avatars" certainly look to do everything that Miis do and more.

Taking into account that Microsoft doesn't seem too troubled by the rest of the year, this, along with the rumored "Newton" controller, could possibly be what they're betting the farm on.

Well, even if it is a rip off Nintendo, it looks as if they have a LOT better choices and options when creating one.

Yeah, the customizable parts seem a lot better than the Wii's, plus I'd be interested to see if they would add any additional parts through Xbox Live.

I imagine you'd be able to buy certain clothing and different facial features, I guess it would be quite good. It's clear that they've got the concept from Mii's; but Microsoft's interpretation seem much better.

Instead of just being able to make ourselves, we'll be able to make ourselves look like something cool, like a ninja or a samurai. They really picked up where Nintendo failed to deliver.

Mii customization is pretty shite so even if its a rip off, its better than the source material.

You think they would at least rip off a fun part of the Wii. Mii's got old after about a month.

Plus they have no real use, Nintendo pretty much told developers that Mii's aren't allowed in their games.

I wouldn't doubt it. They make us pay for everything else. A pair of shoes will end up being like $2.00

Funny how when Msoft does something like this, people praise their actions. But when Sony does it, people call them rip off artists and say they can't come up with anything of their own? lol. Or rather the fanboys come out when Sony does something like this.

Just in case some moron (there's a LOT out there) thinks I'm calling anyone here fanboys, I am not calling anyone here a fanboy.

If it makes you feel any better I wanted to point out that it is just a rip off they will use to get money that probably won't be used half as much as Nintendo's Miis regardless of any extra customization options but I didn't want to cause an uproar against me.

I wouldn't doubt that buying additions for the avatars would cost money, like in MapleStory.

Unfortunately - that will most likely eventually become the normal. Much like MapleStory and Gunbound.

You will have perfectly fine functionality without paying for it, but to get all of the "cool-features" it is going to require a little extra purchasing or even *gasp* a monthly subscription fee.

Everyone rips off everyone. I think it is time to get used to that fact and accept it. As long as my games are becoming more and more kickass, I am happy.
