The Virtual Console was a wasteland in Europe last week, with the region getting a grand total of zero new games. This week is looking to make that back up, with a whopping five games added to the service.
The first game is Last Ninja 2: Back with a Vengeance, the sequel to the original The Last Ninja game that was already released, for the Commodore 64. The game retains the isometric view and gameplay elements from its prequel, but this time with a more modern setting, set in New York.
The second game is Nebulus, also for the Commodore 64. It is a platformer, where the player controls the protagonist Pogo as he climbs eight towers in order to destroy them. One of the technical achievements in the game was that Pogo's sprite didn't move; instead, the tower he was on rotated according to his movements, keeping the sprite centered on the screen.
The third game available is another platformer: Alex Kidd in Miracle World, starring SEGA's original, pre-Sonic mascot, Alex Kidd. The signature part of the game are the Janken (Rock-Paper-Scissors) Matches that consitute the game's boss battles, instead of traditional physical affairs.
The fourth game is the Neo Geo version of Fatal Fury 2, a SNK fighting game and sequel to the original Fatal Fury. Fatal Fury 2 featured eight playable characters, expanding on the original's controllable trio of Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, and Joe Higashi. This game uses a two-punch/two-kick system, with two lanes on the fighting plane, allowing a player to knock their opponent to the other lane.
The last game is another Neo Geo game, the beat-em-up Ninja Combat. It is largely a Final Fight/Streets of Rage clone, not unlike Burning Fight.
