Crossbeam Cancels Wii Projects: Orb, Thorn & Midnight

jesusraz | June 07, 2008 | News | PC Wii
Crossbeam Studios, rather like Nibris, is one of those young up-start developers that jumped upon the hype train for Wii back when it was still going by the code name of 'Revolution'. Three projects suddenly shot into sight; Orb, Thorn and Darkness (or 'Midnight' as it later became known as). But what happened? Years later the CEO has exclusively spoken to Cubed3.com about the demise and rebirth of Crossbeam, plus its new plans for a small PC game.
"I will not sugar coat anything. Falafelkid was right in his article. CSE has had many problems throughout the years. We were naive and perhaps arrogant, "riding the wave of publicity," as he puts it. We take our projects very seriously but we made many mistakes. The biggest mistake was not taking the business side seriously for many years. As CEO, the fault lies squarely with me. I put the game ideas first and said "I'll take care of the business stuff later." We also then announced projects that were merely ideas or designs at the time. The fact that those haven't panned out yet makes me apologise profusely to both my staff and gamers who believed in us and the projects."

Hey twilightprince, they poured themselves into those games. They just got way ahead of themselves and messed up. Are you telling us you have never done that?

Sorry if I seem defensive of them but they are nice people. Sure they screwed up but we can't really blame them for it. That is there lives that they have to readjust and you are acting like all that matters is that they just cheated you out of fourty eight hours of gameplay...

Sorry, I just really had to get that out of my system, I still like those guys and I am hopeful they can get right back on the horse, even if they need to do a few more practice laps.

No no, I'm sorry for my poor choice of words.

They just need to start out with something small first (for the PC) before announcing not one, but three huge projects. (for Wii) They definitely have potential for the future, but right now, they just need to establish themselves.

I think Thorn was the one that I got most excited about with Orb coming in a close second. I really, really, REALLY wanted these games to happen.

And they didn't just announce three huge projects. Thorn and Midnight were just two games, but Orb was supposed to be expanded into seven games.

    *bleep*.
