Could Apple Kill The DS?

Krunal | June 05, 2008 | News | DS
Well Forbes certainly think so. With Ubisoft adding signing up to develop games for Apple's hand-held devices, it seems that Forbes believe that the iPod could (and to quote) "kill the success of the DS". With the iPod capable of doing so much as it is, there appears to be a high chance that Apple may just create something that will give the Nintendo DS (and thus the Playstation Portable) a run for it's money.
The article, which carries the headline ‘Why Apple Could Kill The Nintendo DS’ calls games on iPod ‘a pretty powerful combination’.

Nintendo suck, i mean that might be a really immature way to start a counter claim but they do, Apple for the past 30 years have been innovating, creating and changing the face of the entertainment industry, Apple have done more for the consumer than any other company, Nintendo just make a games console... wow thats special... With Apple innovating more and more and with their iPhone being as powerful as it is, 3 times more processing power of the PSP, the iPhone is the ultimate handheld gaming platform, it just needs tailor made games that make the most of it.

Wow, yeah they really have a good merchandising campaign. Selling the iPhone at $600 and then dropping it $200 two weeks after its release makes them REAL innovative. I guess pissing people off is what Apple is great at.

If they go up against Nintendo that Apple will have a few more bites taken out of it.

Why would people buy an iPhone to play games? It didn't work with the nGage.

Or they might just end up like the N-Gage. But I don't think "hardcore" games fit with Apple's view of the Ipod. Their aim is to make it smaller and smaller and running games will just consume physical space.

Apple is good if you want overpriced merchandise. It's still quality, but the classic games Nintendo has put out still surpass Apple.

Well MS and Sony are having a tough time toppling Nintendo, so why would a company that's a lot like them do any better?

Is it even possible for Mac to make a "cheap" system to rival the pricepoint of the DS? The white plastic shell and bubbly interface usually adds $100 over competitors.

MS isn't in contention with the handheld market. Why mention them?

        360 vs PS3 vs Wii.

The Wii is outdoing both Microsoft's and Sony's consoles right now. Sonic never mentioned handhelds when he mentioned Microsoft.

Thats my point, it has nothing to do with the article though, yea they're having problems with the consoles, but this article is talking about handhelds not 360 wii and PS3.

Unless apple has a console out soon why mention MS? Thing is though Apple can really go places with its Iphone, sure its over priced but when devs make the games for it, its going to be big.

I see your point, but you're missing his. Sonic Flash was not talking about the handheld market. He was talking about Nintendo's competitors and simply pointing out that Apple's going to have a tough time doing any better, especially when Nintendo is the most established company for video games in the industry. Unless Apple can come up with an extremely innovative system that can rival the pricepoint of the DS or Wii, it's going to have as much luck as Microsoft and Sony.

Well I just heard that the 4GB and 8GB Iphones were going for $199 So That can in fact rival the pricepoint of the Wii.

Honestly I kind of wish all of these systems would go away so I'm not stuck having to buy 10 systems to play my favorite games on. I know it breeds competitive developments, but seriously we have enough hand helds thank you very much.

With the Apple technology already being so overpriced, there's not telling how much a gaming phone would cost. I'd say it doesn't have much of a chance in beating Nintendo, but you never know.
