Nintendo not releasing any titles in June. Third-Party developers rejoice.

Gothic Girl | June 05, 2008 | News | Wii
This is good news for third-party developers hoping to gain some attention on the Wii. Nintendo won't be releasing any first-party titles in June, so gamer's attention will be focused on third-party games, at least for a month.

Wii-owners know all too well how desperately good third-party titles need Nintendo's support. Mtv.com is hoping that this is Nintendo's subtle way of stepping back and showing support for their third-party developers, though they're not holding their breaths ...

Nintendo does not, in fact, have any first-party games releasing in June. We continue to enjoy strong third-party support for both Wii and Nintendo DS. In June alone, titles such as “Guitar Hero” for the DS and “Lego Indiana Jones,” “Rock Band” and “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith are all scheduled to come out for the Wii.

While Microsoft and Sony have often gone months without first-party releases, Nintendo of America has published games on one or more of the company’s platforms every month at least since the Wii’s launch in November 2006. Nintendo’s aggressive publishing schedule had long been a sign of the company’s size and will to back a large number of games. It’s also demonstrated the company’s apparent inability to depend on major third party games to carry its consoles in a given calendar month.

Is Nintendo’s first-party-free June a big sign of how much the company has changed? A grand achievement of third-party support?

They can rejoice all they like simply because Nintendo aren't releasing games doesn't mean that the third party games are going to be an immediate hit since chances are they will still suck.

True, but if there ARE any good third-party titles coming out in June, it will be nice to know that they aren't up against Nintendo when it comes to getting attention.

As sad as it is, crappy Nintendo games like Mario and Sonic Olympics garner more attention than decent third-party titles like Okami. I don't think it's a matter of non-interest either - They just can't compete against Nintendo on Nintendo's own console.

I would have thought the "Nintendo of America" part would have tipped people off.

3rd parties seem to be making the most out of this month. FFTA2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Arkanoid DS, and Summon Night: Twin Age are all out this month. For the Wii it's pretty much just Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Rock Band.

It's a shame Okami and No More Heroes were released so early. They would've really capitalized on the opportunity if they'd been released now.

This summer is one of the best ones for the DS with alot of games being put out, especially by third parties.
