No Gears of War 2 on PC because of piracy, other reasons

chautemoc | September 30, 2008 | Interview | PC XBOX 360
It was announced about a month ago Gears 2 would not be coming to the PC, but Epic's Cliff Bleszinski never really let on why, per se. In a new interview with TVG, he says it is for many reasons, two of which include the multiple configuration problem, and piracy.

He also says there is no chance of it ever coming to the platform. PC gamers/non-360 owners: looks like you'll have to stick to the original.
Do you see the Xbox 360 as the main platform as opposed to the PC? During the whole Unreal time it was very much PC focused.

The PC right now is a fair amount different to what it was back in the day, with all the badly integrated video chips. Here's the problem right now; the person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know bit torrent to know all the elements so they can pirate software. Therefore, high-end videogames are suffering very much on the PC.

So piracy was a main point for you...

Right now, it makes sense for us to focus on Xbox 360 for a number of reasons. Not least PCs with multiple configurations and piracy.

But when the dust has settled, is there any possibility of Gears 2 on PC?

No.

Definitely not?

No.

CliffyB can go and jump off a cliff. This is absolutely no reason to not port it to PC. How do you fight piracy? Put the PC version out after the console version. Now, while this doesn't prevent piracy it does help.

I think discrimination against legitimate PC customers like this is what totally turns people away from companies and their games. Besides, it's not like people can 't pirate 360 games either.

Totally agree..but I'm imagining then sales didn't do good enough for his liking, or the publisher's..but was that due to piracy? Doubtful..

No big loss anyway, it's not like there aren't better shooters out there for the PC.

Correct term would be third person shooter, with FPS elements.

LOl - disappointing, but other than wanting to see the new content it was hard for me to get into GoW on the PC... IIll get it for the 360 and dedicate all my PC time to FALLOUT 3 (*cries and soils himself that Fallout 3 is actually coming in 29 more friggin days! OMFG!*)
