Media Create 12/03/07 - 12/09/07 Japanese Sales: Wii Fit Drives Wii Sales, Strong Wii, DS Sales

Akira_EX | December 14, 2007 | Industry News | Playstation 2 Playstation 3
Welcome to this week's Media Create numbers, where we see the holiday fervor in full swing with increased numbers across the board (with exception). The combined strength of new releases and continued strong sales of recently released games both contribute to the numbers this week.

The top software seller this week is our favorite Wii non-game, Wii Fit, pushing very nearly 150k units. Following it in the #2 position is Mario Party DS, selling 107k units. Rounding out the top five are Tales of Innocence (NDS - 104k), Hot Shots Golf Portable 2 (PSP - 87k) and last week's #1, Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (NDS - 76k).

As for hardware, we see an increase in everything this week except for the PS2, the old DS model, and the original GBA.
This Week - Last Week: +/-
DSL: 168,255 - 124,591: +43,664
WII: 115,057 - 74,764: +40,293
PSP: 91,481 - 74,626: +16,855
PS3: 38,123 - 37,092: +1,031
PS2: 11,987 - 13,703: -1,716
360: 8,876 - 6,632: +2,244
GBASP: 94 - 9: +85
GC: 46 - 32: +14
GBM: 20 - 20: 0
DS: 12 - 36: -24
GBA: 0 - 4: -4

As we see Wii Fit selling through its stock, we see the good effect of its sales: as it is pushing Wii units, it is also pushing/leading to the purchase of copies of other Wii games. The two main beneficiaries are Super Mario Galaxy (WII - 45k - #9) and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (WII - 45k - #10).\, and prove that both games have legs.

Tales of Innocence, although a respectable number, had a low number of copies shipped, due to the stigma that it carried following the very disliked Tales of the Tempest. Professor Layton is also still pushing copies with a respectable second week. Mario Party DS and Dragon Quest IV are on pace to become million sellers.

Lost Odyssey (360) has also released this week, and with 55k copies sold, it even managed to pushed some 360 units in Japan.

As for notable games outside the top 10, Silent Hill Zero debuts at #19, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune at #24, and No More Heroes at #38.
