The Migration Patterns of a Red Ringed Xbox 360

mclazyj | February 28, 2008 | Guides | XBOX 360
When Aeropause writer Joe Haygood had his 360 go belly up with the "red ring of death", he found so much contradictory information about what the process was for returning the console. With this in mind, Joe decided to put together a guide that describes the entire process from the first call to the return of the 360.
"As most readers know, my 360 went belly up a few weeks ago, along with every other gaming device I own. Well, I started to do some research over what the process entailed and how long it would take to get it back, but it seemed like no one really had all the steps down as to what happens to a returned Xbox 360."

My 360 last week encountered the Red Ring of Death and once this happened I shut down my console quickly (was playing Enternal Sonata) and praying when I switch it back on I will see the normal and lovely green lights. To my surprise my 360 worked again, now I'm giving it a rest.

I've read numerous articles about this problem and was really hoping that it didn't occur in my 360. I purchased my 360 on launch day in the U.K. The premium package, but now every time I want to play it do I have to pray to god that nothing happens while I'm playing?

This is the reason why if a game is released on the PS3 and 360 I always go with the PS3, because thankfully with the PS3 you don't need to keep praying, but you can just keep playing .

Why not just get the 360 replaced?

You have a 3 year warranty.

Can't get it replaced since my 360 if fully working right now or should I say for now? If it's that easy, then everyone would have replaced their 360's when they desire. Microsoft would think I'm lieing for all they know.

Or I can just purchase the game on the PS3 and play it without biting my nails or rocking back and forward.

      Then shut up.
'Oh MERCY! My 360 is currently working! What am I to do! Which one of you strapping young gentlemen will catch my fall!'

If it stops working, it IS that easy. I got the RROD. I sent it to Microsoft and it took less than a month for me to get it back. I was surprised as hell.

Reply to reply to annoying idiot:

Or you could try using a legitimate reason to choose between multiplatform games. Idiot. If you FEAR the RROD oh so much, why, good sir, did you go to the Fake Store, talk to the Doesn't Exist Clerk, and buy your Imaginary 360 with Yeah Right Cash? So you could attempt to convince people someone like you actually owns a 360?

They will replace it. They are legally obliged to.

Thankfully, I bought my 360 recently. As far as I've heard, only the older 360s get red rings of death. But I could be wrong.

Before guiticb comes in here and explains in the most annoying way possible with a winking smiley and pretentiousness so thick you could cut it with your schlong:

The newer 360s still can get RROD but at a much lower rate. There's no sense exaggerating like ITANI and rocking back and forward biting your nails as you play: just keep your 360 well ventilated and if you DO get the RROD, ship it to Microsoft.

I've always thought Krunal was worse at that.

Maybe, but at least when Krunal does it you don't hate him afterwards...

Lol, Itani actually has a 360?

I'm actually suprised something like this isn't tagged under PS3 aswell considering the usual shit that occurs on gamegrep.

My 360 got the RROD a month ago and it's taken them that long to finally get the UPS label out to me. Twice they failed to email it to me when they said they would and the third time they failed to post it to me. Eventually they sent the UPS man round with the label but he still managed to forget it and had to come back half an hour later. Now it will probably be another month before I get it back.

The process that I got my 360 fixed was basically the same process as the article's. I got the box within a week, I shipped it out and it got there in less than a week, it was repaired and back to me in less than a week.
