An Analysis Of Cheating - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Krunal | April 19, 2008 | Blog | Misc
Games control the life of many, and as with most aspects of life, some people try and 'cheat' there way and achieve things that they wouldn't have normally. Well, Softpedia, have taken the time to analyze cheating and cheaters. Taking three different views on it, we've got The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly.

Which view point do you agree on? Is cheating something that's necessary from time to time, is it just plain wrong, or is it something that people should be jailed for (okay, a bit extreme, but most gamers are extreme these days... if you don't believe me, ask Jack Thompson).
Yes, as the title subtly suggests, this Weekend Reading is about cheaters. Not necessarily "casual" cheaters that just can’t pass a level because some developer thought it would be cool to make it impossible and they DO have to use the codes. We’re talking about the hardcore ones, those who guide their lives following one golden rule of thumb: Cheat, cheat, cheat. We’re talking about the scum, the losers, the "I don’t care about the game, I only have to win". Let’s see three points of view. Are they good, bad or just plain ugly?

Online cheaters should get kicked in the nuts by every person they've ever faced in a game.

Haha cheating online is the worst. At least when you're playing offline you're only ruining the experience for yourself!

I don't like wasting my money by using cheats in game. I'll only consider using them once I've completed the game, purely for fun.

The only time I use cheats to win a game is if I honestly think I can't complete something in the game.Even then I don't feel good about cheating.

The word given to it, being "cheating" just sums up the reason why it is called that and also in addition to it why they should be banned for doing it in multi-player games.

The Good: Offline, once you've clocked the game, for pure fun (example, going back and unloading unlimited rounds on Jack Lupino because the psycho kept getting you killed whilst playing Dead on Arrival. REVENGE BITCH!)

The Bad: Offline to finish the game. Once you've done it cheating, there is no satisfaction from finishing it. (example, unloading unlimited rounds on Jack Lupino the second time you try to fight him because you died the first and cried about it)

The Ugly: Any online or multi-player game, usually MMORPG's and FPS's to (in the words of the ugly cheater's) 'PWn n00bz wit m4d Haxxxin sk177z'. Yes my friend, you're not big or clever and nobody likes you. (example, Leet World, Ahmad)
