What features should the next generation of PSPs have?

xsynergyx | April 14, 2008 | Blog | Playstation Portable
Kevin Olemoh was sitting around one day when he decided that he should help Sony out and make a brief list on what they need to bring to the table if they wish for the Playstation Portable to succeed. Basically, he suggested that it needs better speakers, give it a hard drive, get rid of the UMD format and movies, listen to the public, add some features to the buttons like backlighting and add another analog stick(the most wanted feature on the PSP), get rid of the glossy screen since it is bound to get fingerprints all over it, format a better web browser and bring some top class games to the table. What are your thoughts?
The PSP took some of the focus away from what should have been its primary priority with things like its tagged on UMD movie format, large size, relatively heavy weight (before the PSP Slim), heftier price tag, and lack of software support. Its primary priority should have been concentrating on the reason most people buy handhelds; that is, conveniently playing fun games on the go. PSP2 can get these things right by focusing on features that will make gaming more enjoyable and surpass the experience available on other handhelds.

This is the first article I've seen where someone actually mentioned the black, glossy cover of the PSP. It truly does attract fingerprints, but I think that it makes the system look sleek and stylish. I don't see what's wrong with the web browser and I disagree on the game section. The PSP has some fantastic games, whether they're overlooked or not.

if thats what you think it should look like then your crazy. that thing looks stupid. i dunno what it actually should look like but all i know is not that.

i agree with synergy with the glossy screen thing. it may attract finger prints but i already developed a habbit of wiping it without conciously knowing i did lol. plus i like how sleek it makes the psp look.

Good games. *gets shanked by Sony fanboys*

Seriously, it all depends on what Sony plans to achieve more with the system. If they wanna flesh out the multimedia, then add more codec compatibilities for videos. And maybe a custom EQ for the music.

Games wise though, just do whatever they can to cut down load times, and they're set. Sony has enough support from game developers to continue pushing out great games like they are doing now.

And finally, beef up the default battery. Please.

Throw in a Patapon 2, and the new PSP will be elite.

That's a nice design, I must say. Screen protectors should help with fingerprints for the most part.

As long as the next-gen PSPs start off with a decent price range, I'll be happy.

Games that aren't ports nor original games that eventually gets ported anyway. That's one of the reasons why the PSP doesn't sell good. Too many of it's games are either ports or games that eventually gets ported.

Crisis Core and Chains of Olympus will not be ported and aren't ports. And i doubt Final Fantasy Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep will ever be ported either. So those are 4 killer PSP apps at your finger tips.

Anyway i love that PSP design, its awesome.

Yeah, I know. I was just saying that the PSP just needs more games that aren't ports or games that gets ported.

Sony have actually already settled the speakers at the bottom problem. Looks like this guy has never used a slim PSP.

All the PSP really needs is Dual Analog sticks. That's honestly it.
