Gamedaily aren't very happy with Mario lately. They think he has gone downhill. (Not the Mario games - they're fine). But they believe that Mario himself seems to have gone from a chubby yet heroic plumber to a bumbling high-voiced idiot.
Do you agree with them?
#5 Nintendo's overused "all-in-one" game token
We hope you love basketball, because so does Mario. In fact, he also enjoys baseball, tennis, kart racing, Mario Parties and golf, and we're 99 percent sure that Nintendo will add hockey and football to his bloated all-star sports resume someday. Look, we know he's the company's most recognizable mascot (Pikachu probably has something to say about that), but we could use a break from seeing his mustachioed, goofball mug on the cover of video games.
#4 He can't hang onto his woman
No matter how many times Mario rescues Princess Peach, he can't prevent Bowser from doing it again. For years, we thought she was the stupid one for not hiring more security, but now we feel she has a thing for Bowser and lets herself get caught. Either that, or she gets off on having her bumbling knight in shining armor come to her rescue. Regardless, Nintendo transformed Mario into a whipped chump.
#3 He dresses up as a bee
Mario as a raccoon? Love it. Mario as a frog? Super cute. Mario as a fat yellow honeybee showing off his ass? Creepy. Sorry, but Bee Mario is the type of character only a three-year-old can love, but only because their brain hasn't developed enough to know his costume sucks.
#2 Mario Shafts Luigi
Aside from a starring role in Luigi's Mansion, Luigi always takes a backseat to his brother, who hogs the spotlight like a Mountain Dew-ed teenager with a new video camera. For once, we'd like to see Mario break his leg right before fighting Bowser, and suddenly Luigi appears, carries his bro to safety and saves the Mushroom Kingdom. Instead of giving the green guy his due, Nintendo takes risks with games like Professor Layton and the Curious Village, which no sexually active American has ever heard of.
#1 They gave him a voice
At first, we delighted in Mario's stereotypical Italian accent and his "AHA"s and "WOOHOO"s. But since Super Mario 64, Charles Martinet's voice has progressively grown more annoying and getting higher in pitch. Just listening to him exclaim "Super Mariooooooo Galaxyyyyyyy" at the Wii Menu (before clicking the game icon) gives us chills, not to mention it makes us feel slightly embarrassed for even playing the video game. It was much better when Mario's voice was left to the imagination, much like all video game characters. We're not saying cut his vocal chords. Just take it down several notches.

It certainly doesn't Nintendo when they base there whole titles as Mario, jesus make another game, a new franchises and let Mario rest in peace, i love Mario but Nintendo are milking Mario more than a farmer milking a cow. Seriously, im getting sick of all the mario games lately and its not even good. Nothing will be as good as the old ones in SNES and N64 days.
So yes i agree, Nintendo has ruined Mario and its time to give it up. Make something new and innovative for one, for games, not the same shit they have been for 20 years. They knew when to stop Donkey Kong games.
Without Mario, Zelda and Metroid Prime, Nintendo would be nothing.
Metroid
Wii
Wii Fit
Wario Ware
Pokemon
etc.
I think Nintendo is taking a lot of chances without solely sticking to Mario as a stable stream line for income. Mario *is* the face of Nintendo, after all.
Galaxy was a totally different style of Mario gameplay so even with Mario himself, they're taking chances on different things.
I think a lot of people are blowing this out of proportion. There's really nothing wrong with Mario.
Nah I'm just kidding. I don't see anything wrong with Mario myself. Plaster him everywhere I say!
And man Super Mario Galaxy is so good.
#4 is biased.
Same goes to #3
I do agree with #2. It's time that Luigi gets the spotlight in more games to himself. Let Mario rest a bit, and try something new with Luigi.
I couldn't care less about #1. But I do agree about the embarassing part.
5. To me, this doesn't reflect on Mario. Some games are fun, others are dull. I make an effort to find out which are which and buy them accordingly. You have to be pretty stupid to go out and buy Mario Party 8 without knowing what you're getting into. Unless you're a parent or 5 year old of course.
4. Yeah... This is not only stupid, but pretty biased.
3. Once again, stupid. What kind of insecure fool actually thinks this? This the same kind of talk you hear from high-pitched twelve year olds on XBL.
2. I like Luigi, he's awesome. I agree, I think he deserves some fame. I actually favor Luigi, he's my favorite color and he's an awesome guy.
1. Don't care, doesn't bother me. And for those of you that do care, reviewers used to throw fits when Mario didn't talk in games- just like how they do the opposite with Sonic.
Mario is an awesome icon, no doubt. The face of gaming, no matter what anyone. The one thing that annoys me about Mario is that he lets Waluigi in his games. I hate that guy. > >... Heh...
Nintendo needs more games starring Luigi.
QFT
5) They can't think of their own material
4) They suffer from low self esteem and traffic envy
3) They aren't creative
2) Controversy and bad attention is still traffic
1) No one invites them to press conferences
It's true, marketing Mario for sports games like Tennis, Golf, and others is very pathetic. The plumber should stick to the mainstream titles such as Super Mario World, Galaxy, and Kart has been good.
Granted Mario's a huge hit and it's smart business-wise, but too much of something usually isn't a good thing.
And as for Luigi, I disagree. Mario is cooler than him.
Tingle...
But Sei.. Bee Mario wasn't that bad was he? I mean the bee levels were fun.. and you cant honestly say that this http://vonspalding.net/im/classinfo/assignments/studentWork/assignment1/kris_pigna/home/images/raccoon_mario.jpg looks any better... He looks like he's gagging for a quick bum.
I'm in denial aren't I?
Don't shoot them down when they are trying to entertain you.
I did feel a little shocked when Mario shouted at the Super Mario Galaxy menu, and when I found out that he had a bee outfit, but I suppose Nintendo have gotta keep the younger kids happy, right?
I would like Nintendo to give Luigi a chance though, I think Luigi's Mansion was great.
