Remember the good ol' days of the original PSone? Remember when the PSone's choppy graphics wow-ed us all? Some great series started way back when this console was only beginning, and many of those "series starters" are still considered to be better than the games that succeeded them. It's hard to believe that over a decade has passed since the PSone was first released.
Many new gamers wouldn't understand why Ridge Racer was fun with only one track, or why the original Resident Evil terrified people with it's choppy controls and bad dialogue, or why an epic such as Final Fantasy VII was enjoyable when the characters resembled Lego pieces. But "veterans" know exactly why these games were worth playing.
Gamedaily takes a trip down memory lane and looked at the games that wow-ed us when the first Playstation console was ever released.
(go to source for full list of games)
Ridge Racer
One of the first racing games released for the PlayStation, Ridge Racer ushered in an era of next-gen racing. Sure, it only has one track, but it's a great track. On top of that, several unlockable cars and the "mirror" options make it worth playing, especially since you can remove the disc from your PSOne and play your own CD soundtrack.
Final Fantasy VII
Square's decision to leave Nintendo in favor of the PlayStation shook the gaming world, but not nearly as much as the arrival of the superb RPG classic Final Fantasy VII. The game features an intricate quest, numerous memorable characters (Chocobo!) and excellent production values.
Resident Evil
There are certain things we will always remember about Capcom's classic survival horror game Resident Evil. The schmaltzy dialogue (really, who is a "master of unlocking?"), the dogs jumping through the windows, the encounter with the final boss and the rocket launcher, the bonus goodies, etc. There's so much to love that it's worth another play through, especially as you're waiting for Resident Evil 5.
Silent Hill
Not to be outdone by Capcom's Resident Evil series, Konami struck right back with its own jolting franchise, Silent Hill. In the game, players must discover the secrets of an eerie city, discovering odd-looking creatures and surviving throughout the adventure. The commercial for this game was rather twisted, with a TV banging around in a mental institution room before finally breaking free out a window with a resounding yell.
Tomb Raider
Lara Croft had to get her start somewhere, and it was with this epic adventure. Tomb Raider introduces you to the heroine as she packs a pair of mean pistols and performs acrobatics usually reserved for members of the circus. She's evolved into a much more realistic figure in later games (including the upcoming Tomb Raider Underworld), but the first game is still the best place to check out her humble beginnings.
Metal Gear Solid
Before we reach the epic conclusion of MGS with the release of Rise of the Patriots for PS3, let us look back to the time when Snake earned his battle stripes. The original Solid is still a magnificent achievement in gaming, with sharp design, cool boss characters and a dramatic finale worthy of Snake's legacy. "SNAAAAAAKE!"

wtf
i wish they'd release these on PSstore, the cream of the crop right here
Anyway i remember all those classics those were the best, thats what the store needs all of these titles including FF7.
@Moonrise I commenting about that cause i thought thats what jaseyboy12 was talking about. And afterwards i knew the title was different. But thanks for your input.
I just need to find a pristine MGS copy and I'll have my own PSOne epic collection. Since I have SH and Director's Cut, and SF downloaded in my PSP.
I'd consider getting a 40GB if they were.
where's crash at? who had a psx and didn't have crash?! who played crash that can actually forget about him?
It's nice looking at all those old PSone screens and reminiscing. Makes me feel all nostalgic. XD
It doesn't seem like that long ago when the PSone was popular, and it freaks me out a bit when I hear people say they can't play PSone games because of the bad graphics or crappy controls (remember there was no analogue stick on the first controller? haha). I feel like such an oldie looking at those screens and still thinking they're pretty impressive.
