Hilary Clinton's MAIN objective: Attack Mature Rated Games

Gothic Girl | February 11, 2008 | Blog | Playstation 3 Wii
We all know that Hilary Clinton isn't too keen on mature video games, but who knew that they were going to be her main target upon winning the election? Yes, that's right, if Hilary is elected she isn't going to focus on America's big issues, like the Iraq war, economics, or health care.

She's going to target mature rating video games.

(go to source for full article)
Just recently Hillary Clinton has been doing badly in the primary elections. For everyone with any interest in video games this is excellent news. Because she is one of those politicians who attack video games to further their own career. Her official website says that a priority as president would be: ”Protecting children against violence and sexual content in the media and studying the impact of electronic media on children’s cognitive, social, and physical development.” What this looks like is that she wants to take away our rights and freedoms.

But she has a long history of this, she asked the Federal Trade Commission to “take immediate action to determine the source of graphic pornographic and violent content appearing on the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas video game.”
She has said that she is going to ”author a bill to create a federal law that would “put some teeth into video game ratings.” ”

Everyone reading this knows that hers is a massive over-reaction.

So why is she (and Gordon Brown on this side of the Atlantic) attacking an entertainment industry that does no harm?
Why aren’t they doing something about books like Tess of the d’Urbervilles (a great classical work of English literature) which contain sex and violence yet have no age rating whatsoever? Surely they aren’t being hypocritical?

Haha, wow...that messed up picture is a nice way to start discrediting Clinton. That being said, her little vendetta against "graphical adult content" MIGHT work because people in the U.S. that are bored with their lives and need something to take it out on; namely the gaming industry.

We just need more people to wake the *bleep* up and remind her that at this time and day, Foreign policy is becoming a bit more critical than Domestic policy at the moment.

I'm not even in the same country as her and I don't want her to win the election. Her main target being video games? It's stupid, just so stupid. Hey why not just attack movies, books, TV, radio, music, and all the fun in the world while your at it Clinton. I'm sure all those forms have mature content FILLED with violent and sexual content cause that's all everyone does right, kill and have sex.

This is stupid. If she's going to become president she should attack the REAL issues in our society such as poverty, not videogame violence. But really, shouldn't she be more concerned with the war in Iraq more than a minor playing GTA?

I don't think people realize that if Hillary wins, America will have been led by only two different families since 1989. If Hillary wins, she'd be gone by 2012 at the latest (assuming she doesn't get assassinated or something), meaning two families would rule America for 23 straight years.

"We have a war that isn't going nearly as well as expected, oil prices are way too high, and poverty is a major problem. I need something to target so I can distract all the citizens....VIOLENT VIDEOGAMES!" >_>

Ugh. She looks like she could be in Dawn Of The Dead in that image above. Anywho, I do not see why a single person would vote for her if she's mainly going to be targeting video games. People have WAY too much more to worry about than some violent video games. Screw you Clinton! Go Obama!

Yeah, she is way to focused on the current 'buzz target' (that being video games at the moment), rather than focusing on real issues....

I don't care for politics, but I wouldn't want any anti-gaming moron in power....I'm Canadian, and I still don't want her to win >_>

Any self respecting gamer with half a brain know it is the PARENTS fault that kids get the games....all because the parents are too lazy to know the difference between E, T, and M (and similar rating ages in other countries)....They just buy whatever their kids want them to get....

Everyone seems to forget that retailers aren't allowed to sell games that are outside the person's age rating...Having parents bypasses this rating...It is the EXACT SAME THING AS WITH MOVIES DAMMIT! The only way a kid can gain access to games above their age rating, is either having their parents (or an older person) get it for them, borrowing/stealing it from older persons, or the retailer wasn't paying attention (or didn't care), in which case the retailer is at fault, not the game....

Heck, kids can gain access to movies and shows out of their age rating easier than with games....Basic cable, for example, especially digital cable/video providers especially....Without the V-chip thing, a kid could watch anything from Telletubbies to Porn....Though some movies (and porn) are pay-per-view, there is still basic package channels that allow for whatever is currently airing....You are likely to fnd (on digital cable) at least one R rated movie in a given hour block....And in the case of pay-per-view, parents would likely not be aware of their child viewing said content until they get their monthly bill >_>

Movies are more accessable to people than games, since pretty much everyone who lives in a house/apartment/etc has access to either a VCR or DVD player, in well developed countries anyhow....Parents are generally aware of the ratings on DVDs and VHS stuff they buy (or have bought)....if they let the kid watch it anyway, that is their problem....It is EXACTLY the same thing with games....Games are more immersive, yes, but are still a visual entertainment medium, like movies...

Heck, game covers/titles can usually give you a hint...If it isn't happy go lucky sounding, it is likely Teen rated or above...

Games are simply a target now, because they are a newer entertainment medium, and it is rising in popularity...People have preconceptions as to what gaming and gamers is/are like....Negative press, and little in the way of positive press, adds to the problem...

Movies I'm sure, got their share of negative press when they first started coming out, but now movies are common, and normal everyday things for people....Same thing will happen for games, eventually...and then it is on to another new entertainment medium >_>

You gotta remember its only getting attacked cause your actually controlling the character not just watching it. So its different in a way, Video games will always get attack its just how it is. I don't think there will ever be a time that it doesn't. To compare it to movies is ridiculous. But interesting post though.

I think I already mentioned that I realize there is a difference, but it isn't so great as people seem to think....

And you're missing the point anyhow, it is the parent's lack of awareness (it is laziness pretty much) that leads to kids getting access to games rated for those that are older >_>

The Principle of the thing is the exact same as it is with movies, you don't seem to grasp that point >_> Both movies and games are rated based on the ages they are suited for, it is really parents at fault, not the games/media. In the case of politics, you can gain support from these ignorant parents who'd rather blame games than themselves. All these politicians have to do, is blame the games, not the parents...If a politician blamed the parents, who are the ones who are at fault, they'd alienate these people. They may be morons, but I'm sure they account for a good percentage of the total voters >_> It is much the same as calling an idiot, an idiot. The person may be an idiot, but they don't want to be called as such, and generally I doubt they see themselves as idiotic...

And don't forget, way back in the day, there used to be just Books (illustrated or otherwise) and plays. It was a big jump from that, to movies. Similar level in jump to go from Books to Movies, as it is to go from Movies to Games....I'm quite sure people used to bash movies a whole lot more than you hear now (of which you don't hear much, ouside of porn, which is the same problem, parents not paying attention when their kid looks at/watches it)...

Eventually Games will be much the same as movies, everyday common stuff to most people who don't live in poverty or whatever...Something will replace it...A new input device probably (direct data-brain feed probably, a neural interface in other words, streaming experiences right to your head)

No i understand everything you said and your right but the parents thing is as obvious to us as someone saying the sky is blue.

But like i said before to think Games will at one point be like movies now where there won't be targeted as much is not going to happen. Your controlling your character and no matter what people will say its a simulator thats my point. These people are idiots and not going to change. I even made a similar statement in the Bible and games article.

Once again, you're missing the point it seems, sure it is immersive, and you're controlling the character, but movies are immersive too, since you're visually experiencing it, and in the case of movies, it is more realistic than games, since the people are real...

The jump from Books to Movies was much the same as the jump from games to movies.....Movies let you visualy experience something violent, such as a murder, a much more visceral of an experience, than reading about it...That is immersive too. The immersive level from book to movie, is similar from movie to game....But movies came out a LONG time ago, since everyone alive now (pretty much) has grown up with movies, you don't see many people complaining about them now, do you? Porn is a subtype of video/media that is still getting flack, but it isn't so mainstream, unlike games and movies...

Soon games will become Day to Day life for most people, and people will grow up with games, and you won't find so many pissy politicians and parents who complain about it...

If you need proof, look at the numbers, the video game market is growing, it is getting close to the $$$ value of the Movie industry....

Some day, you'll get mainstream ratings of games the same as movies....If something is only suited for 18+ (a lot of pornographic content, or excessively violent, etc), you'll have to special order it, or go through a store that offers it, same with movies now...In fact, there are already games like that, though mostly just on th PC....

All I can tell you is that Hillary is nothing but a bag of shit, and it's not because she's a woman. Her views on issues like video games and healthcare are baffling and exactly why the White house doesn't need more of the same shit. Obama FTW. He is focused on what truly matters - change.
