Are you a single or multiplayer gamer?

TwilightPrince | September 20, 2008 | Blog | Misc Gaming Tech/Hardware
Do you consider yourself to be a single-player gamer or a multi-player gamer? Website/blog "Only a Game", takes a look the differences between single and multiplayer gamers, and why we choose to be each. Is the taste of victory sweeter when we defeat a human opponent rather than a computer? Are multiplayer gamers superior to singleplayer gamers, skill-wise? Read on for the answers!
What's the difference between a gamer who prefers to play multiplayer games, and a gamer who prefers to play alone? In this final look at the DGD2 survey (for now, at least – I have some major posts to come, but they will have to wait) I will very briefly examine differences between players who prefer to play alone, and those that prefer to play with other people.

Beat me to this one. xD

I'm honestly both. I can enjoy myself in complete isolation with just a console to keep me company. On the flip side I've enjoyed lan parties in the past or getting your friends to bring controllers around for mass console fun.

Hmm, I don't think as highly of myself as the surveyed multiplayer gamers, that's for sure. Those surveyed must be pretty damn competitive, I'd rather just do it for the fun. Then again, I usually do come out on top in fighting games between friends, so maybe there's some contribution there.

I'm usually around people when playing a game, otherwise it'll get boring for me after a little while. The story and such would have to be damn good in a single player game to keep me going. But even so, I don't play single-player games alone. It's good having someone to discuss what's happening with you right there and then, or just hang around and chat while going through some dull moments. That and I don't mind watching someone else play, see how they go about things.

Bottom line: I have way more fun playing with friends than I do alone.

I always play alone, plus Multiplayer is always a map that you play over and over again, just becuase you hear new people playing it, it feels the same. You'll have that one person use a weapon that takes one shot weapons (I.E Halo with the beam sword or Rocket Launcher) and ranks up. I think online is useless becuase of it. Some people take out skill becuase of it. However local Multiplayer ill agree on is fun. Atleast you'll know you can have a good time with your friends. But bumps you into the playing over and over factor until you know that level well, so when you're other friends go over your house you'll kick their ass becuase you would remember where a sniping spot is, or where a load of Shield/Med Packs are. So all in all its like a giant Circle

But you're only talking about shooters. xD There's other kinds of multiplayer such as sports or fighting, but I guess I see your point. Online, it's quite competitive, the majority doing things for the stats, but if it's a local game, it's just pure fun.

    I personally enjoy both.

I love to immerse myself into a long single-player quest such as Zelda. I usually lock myself in my room with the lights off and play it non-stop, all night long. I love that type of experience, you know, the long storylines, the cutscenes, the bosses, etc.

But I also enjoy playing quick bursts of multiplayer online. My favorite online-enabled game is definitely Call of Duty 4. I could play that game on Xbox Live hours at a time, especially if my friends are logged on. The EXP points and Leveling up make it really addicting. Also, being on the same team as your friends (while you're all trying to survive) and winning a match is a good feeling.

    I guess I'm both.

I play single mode alot more, but I like playing multiplatform when I can. And I like them both equally.
