How Blizzard Screwed D3

plower glove | July 17, 2008 | Blog | PC Company Misc
Blizzard has to save Diablo III from World of WarCraft. Will the success of WoW's massively friendly graphics and gameplay influence Blizzard's artistic direction of Diablo III? Early screenshots of D3 seem to hint this is so. It looks like Blizzard has to save its latest big franchise release from its last one.
Some would argue that D3 takes place 20 years after the events of Diablo II - in a happy, joyful world where cute/cuddly bunnies hop around with butterflies in golden-green-meadows under rainbows of bliss. But honestly, this is Diablo: the very word means "devil" in Spanish. It HAS to have demonic creatures, hellish baddies, and dark, creepy themes. Blizzard certainly hasn't forgotten that. Sanctuary ain't no Azeroth, and D3 ain't no WoW 2!

I love it, it's not even out and look, apparently D3 is already screwed!

You would think the people at Blizzard would be a tiny bit MORE creative and less lazy than their colleagues that worked on WoW wouldn't you?

However, that might just be a coincidence, and here's to hoping that everything else in D3 is a tad more original.

I wouldn't judge it yet, especially when (knowing Blizzard) this game is well over a year from release.

Tbh I think Diablo III looks great so far. Some of the scenery is too bright in the dungeons, that's for sure, but I don't think people can complain about a "bright world". And for all we know the world gets darker and darker as evil grows. Either way I care more about gameplay and multiplayer capabilities, but I do think some of the creatures areas could be made more "eerie".
