Which Square-Enix "Betrayal" Shocked You The Most?

paulhunter | July 15, 2008 | Blog | Playstation 3 XBOX 360 E3 2008
NextGen Player discusses the two most infamous betrayals of Square-Enix -- the Nintendo FFVIII turncoat in 1997 -- and the recent Xbox 360 FFXIII move. The question posed is "which betrayal shocked you more?"
From NextGen Player:

As evident by the huge outcry on gaming websites, blogs and forums - Square-Enix's announcement yesterday that FFXIII will be released simultaneously on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 was a huge megaton surprise.

But let's not forget that this isn't the first time that Square-Enix has been branded a turncoat and a sell out. Back in the Super Nintendo days, Square-Enix announced development of FFVII, an exclusive title for the upcoming Nintendo 64DD.

The question I have for you is - which betrayal shocked you more?

Yeah, how is a simultaneous release a "betrayal"? Seems like the best for both camps.

    People are strange....

Betrayal? What betrayal? They never pledged they're loyalty to Sony, they just used their console to release their games on and felt the Sony system was the best to get to as many fans as possible. Now as many can see, the 360 has more users than the PS3 does. Put 2 and 2 together and you can understand that that same logic proves true here - get the game to as many fans as possible.

It's not a betrayal, but it does kinda suck. Assuming it was one of the reasons you chose a PS3 over a 360. I just bought a PS3 for MGS4, but I knew I'd have a lot of reasons later to own a PS3. FFXIII was one of those reasons.

Plus, they were advertising FFXIII as PS3 exclusive for the longest time, and said how it uses tons of PS3 potential. And suddenly it's on 360.

"Using full PS3 potential" my ass.

Thats why they turned they're backs so to speak. They false advertised the game for a longest time. Like I said if they originally announced it as a time exclusive I wouldn't really care. But advertise it for a long time for an exclusive and then make it multiplatform.

I agree in that they really mislead the masses for so long. But now I'm beginning to see that it's not the tragedy some have been making it out to be.

Many probably won't. It's how fanboys work.

Square Enix has never been exclusive to anyone, live with it. Stop crying. Please. Articles like these only fuel the amount of stupid that's gone on because of the FFXIII announcement.

It's just business, nothing personal, as they say.

I thought this article was going to be about plot twists and betrayals of characters in actual square games. I wouldn't have clicked on the article if I'd known it was more fanboy crap.

Cry me a river. It's a game. Why can't we just be happy that it's being produced for both parties?
