Problems with the PS3 and improvements to make it better

N.Shah | July 06, 2008 | Blog | Playstation 3
XTREME PS3 has compiled the biggest list of problems with the PlayStation 3 System Software, and a list of features that can make the PS3 even better. The article covers everything from the newly introduced in-game XMB to future improvements like cross-game chat.
Firmware 2.40 brings the PS3 closer to a fully-fledged system, but there are still problems with the system software and features that are missing. In this article, we detail some of the problems faced by the existing system software and what additional features can make it better. While not everyone will agree with the problems and improvements features in this article, it just goes to show how many flaws the system has and how far off it is from perfect.

This dude clearly has too much time on his hands. That list is primarily a "Who Gives a *bleep*?" list, from start to finish. Almost all that shit is just the most trivial shit ever.

I think there's a lot of good suggestions.

    Agreed, iLLmatic.

However, the person made a bit of a boo-boo....If they didn't restrict the friends list, people with like, a couple hundred friends would likely have a lot of problems loading it >_> It is already slow to load....

Also, being able to change your PSN name isn't a good idea, since trophies are locked to a specific PSN name, so retroactive trophies likely won't unlock, and who knows what sort of bugs will appear....

I WOULD like them to improve the flash version and memory allocation to the PS3 browser >_>

NO to receiving messages on my E-mail when I get a new PSN message (or at least the ability to turn off that feature)....I don't check my mail often, like, maybe once every week or two....I DON'T want to see possibly dozens of pointless alert messages in my inbox >_<

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the PS3 already upscale PS3 games?

It is already password protected, isn't it? You just have to change the settings so it doesn't auto-login you?

MGS doesn't use the PSN ID system? That is really dumb 0_o

Dang, there was an idea I had a moment ago, but I forgot >_

Only one game so far that uses retroactive trophies, and I don't think we'll see more of them.

You're right, tallteen. I didn't mention that there is a lot on that list that I don't agree with too, like the friends list, and for the same reason you noted. I also do not need email for messages. It's not a blog. I do think the browser would be complete with more stable cache and better flash support. They improved the flash a little with the 2.40 update, but they still have some work to do. There is definitely a good amount of things I do agree with though.

Also, only Warhawk and Burnout support retroactive trophies at the moment. I'm pretty sure you can change your XBL tag at the cost of points but I believe it automatically updates on your friend's lists, right? Does it retain your stats though?

Costs about $10 worth of points to change your gamertag. Your tag changes automatically for your friends and you keep your gamerscore and everything.

I've done it before and nothing at all changes. You even keep your stats in games like CoD4 as if you didn't even change tags. Only con is that no one is notified of your change and your profile doesn't indicate you've changed. It can be solved by a simple message and changing your motto to say you've switched, but I wouldn't mind some sort of 'Player A was previously Player B' in your profile for a short period of time if any of your friends wonder who you are.

Ah I see, thanks. Not that I have any plans of changing my PSN ID, but if I did, I wouldn't, because all my numbers would be gone.

An email for getting a PSN message? No thanks.I message chatting with friends all the time and we can message each other something like 50 times or more at any given time.I don't want to see 100 messages telling me I got a message over PSN.

Besides the PS3 tells you you got a message when you sign in anyway.

Some of those are good suggestions but a lot of them contradict each other, he wants a bigger friends list and make it load faster too? You can't have anything
