This DLC costs too much!

Do you ever feel like the downloadable content you're paying for can be overpriced? It's probably because it is, mostly because publishers are greedy with their DLC. Downloadable Content Reviews has made a list of the top five downloable content that is just too much.

(List in the source)
Every now and then publishers get greedy and find ways to nickel and dime customers with dlc. Below is my top 5 list for the content which should have been in a different price range.

Well, this is the first generation of home consoles where download content has been prevalent. Since around the time XBOX 360 was about to come out, I had been saying that I hope developers, or more specifically, the companies, don't start to abuse download content either in price or relevance. Basically, I won't want a trend to start where devs will put out a half assed game and then charge an inflated price for content that should have been there in the first place. I could easily see this kind of thing happening sooner than later.

I agree, in the age of PC downloads if a developer was to bring out some content it would have been free. Most importantly the game would have been the full game and the content would have been a small add-on.

Nowadays with console DLC, games are now being released almost half finished. This means that developers can charge $5 per download and release 8 downloads and say "It will make the game better", this is the wrong way to go about this.

So far the only developer doing it right is Criterion Games, (Burnout) as they released a full game that was excellent and are now releasing update after update for free, this makes the game much better. If only other developers would learn.

As a gamer I disagree with paying for anything gaming related aside from the initial purchase of the system, game itself, and peripherals required to play.
Subscription fees, paying for downloadable extra content, and other extra fees along the way (paying to play) is unfortunately the way of the future - and as a capitalist I cannot stand in it's way. (even though I disagree with it).

I don't think it'll get too bad, look what they tried to do in Battlefield: Bad Company, there was such a outcry they were forced to change a position.

So as long as there is a large hoard of angry computer geeks with way to much time on their hands we'll be fine

At one point if i recall, EA were planning on releasing the game with only half the weapons, forcing the gamer to buy the weapons individually for a price if they wanted the good weapons.

If people don't buy overpriced DLC, developers will stop bothering with it. They only do it because they know we are too addicted to our games to stop. A vicious cycle indeed.

I kind of agree with Ace Combat 6 being up on that list. Not so much for the airplane skins, but more for the Ace of Aces difficulty that they make you download for each level. It gets worse considering they post it on the Marketplace piece by piece and for, like, 5 bucks a piece.

I disagree to. The initial price should include all. No paying for anything else :/

damn oblivion horse armor that costs too much and is virtually worthless in game because I have the unstoppable shadowmere who has red eyes and can run fast and has loads of health and doesn't need crappy looking armor to be a badass devil horse from hell given to me by a stupid brotherhood guy who gets betrayed and skinned anyway and thus gave me the horse so I can look even more badass while running from guards.

The only DLC I've bought was Doom (XBL), the Mass Effect DLC, Gunstar Heroes (VC) and Loco Roco (PSN).

Everything else that's taken my fancy has been too expensive.

Well I don't even have a next-gen console and all this expensive DLC just makes getting one less attractive. I hope IV won't be like this.

A lot of people like to hate on the Horse Armor content, and I don't blame them (from what I've heard of it). Not worth a penny >_> It actually slows down your horse >_>

Some content I've been a bit tempted to buy, I wouldn't, because they're too expensive for my tastes....

I'm a bit of a penny pincher, when it comes to stuff like DLC >_> Well, one notable exception was the Shivering Isles DLC....I spent 2400MS points on that >_

It also makes your invincible horse able to die. That's just stupid.
