Survival-Horror fans are holding their breaths for big-name games like
Resident Evil 5 and
Silent Hill: Homecoming, but there's a little PS3 game that is exciting Carbonox_Ratchet, from Playstation.com, more than any other survival-horror. That game is
Siren: Blood Curse. According to Carbonox_Ratchet, this is a game that Survival-Horror fans should be keeping a close eye on. The game has everything that a Survival-Horror fans could want, perhaps moreso than RE5 or SH:H.
Siren: Blood Curse forum
I was never a big fan of Siren back when the franchise was brand new. Played the demo of the first title and thought, "meh", nothing special. Being a Survival Horror fan myself, I'll try every new title in the genre. I think I owe new titles a try.
So far though, this generation has been lacking a decent Survival Horror title. The original Condemned was mediocre and Condemned 2 was no different (any changes that were made failed to make an impact, irrelevant whether or not they were big changes).
However, there really isn't much to go by as this generation has been lacking a Survival Horror title, full stop.
Resident Evil 5 and Silent Hill: Homecoming won't be arriving for quite some time either and Dead Space, IMO, looks generic and uninspiring. So what is there to go by?
Siren: New Translation (Or Siren: Blood Curse outside of Japan).
Funny that, not being a fan of the series and ending up regarding the newly announced title as the one Survival Horror title to really stand out this generation so far? Shows how much opinions can change by demos and research. Here is what I loved about the Siren: New Translation demo...
An actual Survival Horror title or...?
Siren: New Translation is a Survival Horror title through and through. You actually need to rely on stealth as well which is a change in the usual layout of Survival Horror titles where your arsenal will happily get you through the entire game and avoiding your enemies seemed less appealing. Here, you do or die. Simple. Ever find that this is the realistic approach that most games should have taken on-board? If you're unarmed and need to get from A to B, I thought it was a bit daft to have to run past your dumber-than-dirt foes.
Is it the first Survival Horror title to really tickle my fancy? Most definitely. Although this demo gave me an insight to the game, I get the impression that Sony are set to deliver an amazing experience and the first genuine attempt at the Survival Horror genre this generation. The Condemned titles went for a different approach and Resident Evil 5, Silent Hill: Homecoming and Dead Space look to take on a more combat-heavy angle. So in essence, Siren: New Translation will be the only traditional Survival Horror title for quite some time it seems and the only one to really offer Survival Horror fanatics the scares and atmosphere that they've been waiting for.
