Lack of Playstation 3's and marketing will 'hold back' Metal Gear Solid 4's sales?

xsynergyx | June 02, 2008 | Blog | Playstation 3 Company
Newswee'sk N’Gai Croal believes that the lack of Playstation 3's in the market may 'hold back' Metal Gear Solid 4's sales.

Along with that, he believes that the lack of advertising/marketing for MGS4 will also 'hold it back' from being as successful as it could be.
With Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots due out next week, the PlayStation 3’s install base and lack of TV marketing for the game may hinder sales, according to Newsweek’s N’Gai Croal.

According to Croal, Metal Gear Solid 4’s mechanics makes it a better game than Assassin’s Creed, but pointed out that MGS4 may fall behind in marketing.

“Assassin’s Creed was marketed phenomenally well,” Croal said. “It had great TV spots. So they’re not doing TV spots for this game, that’s something that will hold it back.”

“I think the game is going to be incredibly rewarding for anyone who does decide to play it, but my feeling is that there is a bit of a ceiling on it,” he said.

On the contrary, I think MGS4 will boost PS3 sales. It's the biggest reason why I got the PS3 (this and Final Fantasy XIII). MGS4 is one of the biggest games this year, and I'm sure many have been waiting for it's release to purchase the PS3 console. That bundle will sell well, I'll bet my PS3 that it will.

Bleh, just more PS3 hating. Either way, I plan on buying the game pretty soon - even though I haven't seen much at all on it. I've come to expect good things from MGS and I'm sure others have too.

LMAO what did you expect? Everyone loving PS3 when the games on the system isn't all that great compared to 360. Yes im being red but honestly comparing both libraries the PS3 is shit atm. This is one of the biggest games for PS3, yes but due to somewhat failure of GTA4 I don't see how this one will be any better.

MGS4 is one of the most hyped next-gen games. It's going to sell fantastically, regardless of marketing (or lack thereof).

Well, it happened...I was hoping it wouldn't happen but it did anyways. MGS4 (like GTA IV) got its attention; in fact too much of it. We're going to be getting a lot more crap like this about MGS4 for a while now.

It was inevitable.[/Smith] All the big titles will go through this in an attempt to get more sales and such. Usually the more the hype/anticipation brought out, the bigger the sales/reception/ratings.

Wish it wasn't that way myself, but the only thing we can do is try to avoid the hype.

Ha, I hardly think 12 million and counting PS3's are going to hold back MGS4. A little more advertising might help though, but then we never get videogame ads around here

The PS3 needs an anticipated game to boost it's sales. Metal Gear Solid 4 should help quite a lot, with luck.
Is MGS4 available for Xbox 360? I hope not! =P

Is this guy rucking fetarded or something? Lack of PS3s? Limit the sales? They have multi-million consoles sold and they're saying it'll limit sales? The game won't even sell over a million in the first week. What a stupid moron.
